Concurrently, I was employed at Mind Stretcher, where I taught Mathematics to Primary 2 and Primary 3 students, Science to Primary 5 students, and conducted relief classes across various levels from Primary 1 to Primary 6.

I am a firm believer of engaging and enriching young minds; actively challenging students with cognitive activities to further develop their social emotional skills and enhancing their experiential learning. My pedagogy has always been student centred as learning occurs most effectively when teachers and students work together towards a common goal thus allowing conversation to motivate each other, which teaches language and meaning, and values in the context of immediate issues. Through conversations, students can learn how to share their ideas, express how they feel and form opinions. Developing students competence in the language of instruction is the most fundamental as thinking, social language and formal academic language are inseparable. It is a necessity for language to be fostered through purposeful, deliberate conversations instead of drilling. This can be achieved by contextualizing curriculum to students’ experiences and community. Utilising the knowledge they already have and helping them to connect. Understanding that each student has different learning capacity hence careful levelling of task is required. Students who are at risk of educational failure will require cognitively challenging activities that will motivate them to think and analyse but not be overwhelmed to be discouraged by their efforts.

I was graduated from National University of Singapore. My major is Chemical Engineering. I used to work as an engineer for 6 years while teaching students as my part time. Due to my passion in teaching, I have became a full time tutor.I have been teaching Mathematics and Science (Chemistry, Biology and Physics) for many years as a full time tutor and I am also very familiar with GCSE/IGCSE/IB A level syllabus. I am currently a year 3 student studying in NUS Medicine and I was previously in Hwa Chong Institution for 6 years under the IP Programme. I have been able to perform well in school, achieving NUS Medicine Dean's List in 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 for Phase I and Phase II respectively. In JC, I achieved 90 Rank Points, with As in H2 Biology, H2 Chemistry, H2 Math, H2 Economics, H1 General Paper, H1 Project Work, and Distinction for H3 Chemistry. In Secondary 4 IP, I achieved a Scholastic Mean Grade of 1.27 in Year 4 IP with 8 A1s and 3 A2s. For myself, I like to focus on 2 main principles when studying to ensure I retain the knowledge I learn. These are “Active Recall” and “Spaced Repetition”. Active recall helps with memorising because you are forced to retrieve information from your brain when you think of the answer and this helps information stick. Spaced repetition refers to the act of spacing out your studying in intervals, so each time you re-study information you refresh the information in your brain and over time the information will be retained for longer. I use a flashcard app known as “Anki” to study as it helps me be consistent, and I will share how I use this app to do well and also practice these concepts of “Active Recall” and “Spaced Repetition” to improve learning and retention of information. I also believe that practicing questions are extremely important so we don’t just learn the information but ensure we can apply our knowledge to answer questions in our exam. I have always had a passion for teaching because the process of teaching and seeing my students grow in the process is something I find fulfilling. I hope to be able to help my students in aspects of their academics that they may be struggling with, in the process hopefully impart some healthy habits in these younger students and help them achieve their goals.

Maths is one of my strongest subject. I believe that the key to score well in maths is to understand the concepts and formulas before one can learn how to apply the knowledge to the relevant questions. I'm a very passionate and patient tutor who ensures that the student fully understands the concepts and requirements of the question before I move on to the next question. I also try to make maths fun and more relatable so that the student will find it more easy and enjoyable to learn maths. I scored an A in H2 Maths for A level, A1 and A2 for Emaths and Amaths respectively for O Level. Previously, I have taught Sec 1, Sec 2, Sec 3 & Sec 4NA Maths. Currently, I'm teaching Sec 2NA and Sec 4 Maths. I have 4 years of teaching experience now. For the recent exams, my Sec 2 student scored a B3 for her End of Year Maths paper, an improvement from her last year's End of Year in which she got a C5. In addition, my Sec 4NA student scored an A2 for his N level (2023). To add on, my Sec 4NA student from this year (2024) scored B3 for her N level which is a tremendous improvement from a C5 in her mid-year exam.
