Hello everyone!
Andrew Wiles, an English Mathematician, once quoted that “ Just because we can’t find a solution, it doesn’t mean there isn’t one.” I also agree, for I believe that Mathematics is an area beyond just an academic subject. It is something which you and I can understand the concepts and analyse the given problem, after which we select and/or modify the concept to solve the problem, sometimes trying out a combination of concepts to solve a complex problem. Therefore, I would suggest my method of solving complex Mathematics - Analyse, Understand, Solve, Assess, Reapply, Repeat ( The ‘AUSARR’ method, if you prefer to call it this way).
Having tutored at a home tutoring agency (MyTuition Limited) for close to two years when living in New Zealand (2020-2023), I had roughly nine to ten students during the peak of this career (i.e. between May 2023 to September 2023), with most of them in the Cambridge International A level and IGCSE level (Sec 1 to JC2 or IB Year 2 equivalent). Almost all of them recorded a massive improvement in their grades within six months since receiving help from me, improving from a fail or bare pass, to a near-or-at distinction grade by the time they completed their third term or year-end exams. One of them, in particular, had his mother stating that his teacher praised him for helping other students in his class clarify a particular math concept, similar to one we went through during a tutoring session. Another student’s mother commended me for introducing novel concepts that the student’s primary school would otherwise not have taught. This ability to guide others in achieving their own best and long-term educational goals complements well with the generally positive feedback I received from the agency, stating that I was punctual, caring and hardworking when preparing the lesson for the students.
Additionally, I have won several academic awards whilst living in Singapore (I moved from Sri Lanka in 2006, and moved back from New Zealand in end-November 2023) and New Zealand. In Singapore, not only did I score an A star for PSLE Math, and an A1 and A2 for Elementary and Additional Math respectively, I also won a couple of Edusave academic achievement awards for four years, with the last year (2018-2019) earning me an Edusave EAGLES leadership award as well. Within a year of joining my high school in New Zealand (i.e. Auckland Grammar in 2020), I won three awards - Highest in Mathematics, Highest in English language and literature, and 2nd best overall in my form class. Moreover, whilst at university, I volunteered to become class rep for ten of my courses throughout my study, and even chaired my university Toastmasters club as the Club President and Club Vice-President for Education within six months of joining the club (from July 2022 to April 2023).
