Experience
Although I've not participated in formal tutoring yet, I've taken part in multiple peer tutoring sessions hosted within my school, as well as done free tuition for low income children at community centers. My teaching methods parallel the methods I used for myself during my O levels, and A levels, where I scored L1R5 raw 6 for O levels and consistently above average for JC exams. I strongly believe in the importance for all students to understand their learning style first, so that the process of learning becomes meaningful and enjoyable for students. My academic success was a manifestation of my understanding of my learning style as a visual learner, discipline and structured learning sessions. I wish to help my students gain a foundational structure on how to study, what to study, and how to enjoy studying as well, ensuring they have a deep appreciation for the subjects they study and thus, excel in them.
For example, for Chemistry Tution, I always make sure each student creates a mind map of concepts and a separate document of their learning points, making sure they have internalized what they learnt, while I help them simplify the knowledge into memorable and digestible bites. For chemistry, since the fundamental concepts are very important, so I'll specifically curate questions that actually test and hone student's fundamentals as well. I also make it a point to give the reasons behind concepts, which while may be slightly out of the syllabus, are just as essential in building the students interest, confidence, as well as their overall skill when tackling chemistry concepts.
