I was a former MOE teacher, having taught at Damai Sec, Victoria Sch, Hwa Chong International Sch or even NUS FASS before, and accumulated a total of 10 years of teaching experience. I was also offered a teaching position at RGS before (the school considered me a suitable candidate based on my profile & interviews), but I did not take up the job for I eventually decided to do a mid-career switch to work in the pte sector. Given my 10+ years of experience in education & academic-related work (academic research/academic publishing/editing/translation), my familiarity with the local school environment, and the fact that I am an effectively bilingual teacher, that should put me in a very good position to offer my service as a Chinese language tutor.

I have worked as a volunteer teach in an elementary school in a rural area of Yunan Province in China for two months in 2012. I have worked as a junior mentor for my high school's middle-division robotics team in Florida, US for 3 years (2017-2020). I have worked as part time home tutor in math and English during Covid for elementary school students in China for 1 year (2020-2021) I have worked as full time science lecturer that teaches physcis, math, comp sci, econ, and some general science courses in the form of one-on-one or small class sizes (8-15 students) in a tutoring organization for students in high academic standard international schools in China for 4 months (2021). I have also worked as a part time coding instructor for middle schoolers in Toronto, CA for 1 year (2023).

I have experience teaching E-Math and Science at both Primary and Secondary school levels. I taught children who were in Secondary 2 E-Math as well as Science and Primary 5 students science. I had students who had autism and another who had dyslexia both of which showed that they enjoyed my classes and would always be excited for lessons. My teaching style will vary depending on the student and in what way they learn as some learn through more physical examples and some are able to learn through verbal explanation alone. I typically approach every student with an open-mind and will try to get to know them as their interests can often be used to aid in their learning.

I have a one year experience tutoring a K2 child and a Primary 6 child. The K2 child has improved a lot and become more confident in her schoolwork, while the P6 child improved from AL 28 in 2022 to AL 19 in 2023. Earlier this year, I have worked as an assistant teacher at a preschool for half a year, so I have had experience working with children from ages 2-6. I have assisted with English, Chinese, Coding and Robotics, Speech and Drama, Montessori, Music, Cooking and Sports classes. I have been teaching N-level and O-level English as a tutor for more than 10 years, with students from different schools and backgrounds. I have achieved good results teaching them and have helped to improve their grades. Success stories include: 1. A student who studied at ACS (I) improved his grades from B3 to A2 2. A student who studied at Hillgrove Secondary improved his grades from D7 to B3 3. A student who studied at St. Gabriel's Secondary improved his grades from C5 to B3 When I take on a new student, I will first assess his language ability by conversing with him, reviewing his work at school, and getting him to do some exercises appropriate for his level. After ascertaining his ability, I will guide him by focusing on what I believe are his weaknesses, particularly those which require special attention that his teacher at school cannot provide due to various constraints such as time or opportunity. Along the way, I will monitor the progress of the student and teach in a way which I believe best complements what he learns at school. I believe as a tutor, my role is not to replace or compete with school teachers. Instead, I am there to support the student so that he receives guidance in areas of need.
