I taught primary and secondary students for 5 years, one of whom has gone from a failing primary 6 student to receiving the Lee Kuan Yew Award in Mathematics and Science in polytechnic. Another student went from a D student in O level Mathematics to B3. I emphasise a great deal on concepts and will take the time to ensure that my students grasp concepts well, using different problems to probe their understanding and uncover gaps. This has worked very well in helping students build confidence in the math and science subjects. My own daughter in primary school is offered math Olympiad and HMT. I’m teaching her p6 subjects in p3 - as I’ve built the proper scalffolding for her, and she’s coping well. Recent small class assessments are full marks for her own level, but then again, she has moved onto higher level topics as mentioned.
