I am an experienced tutor specialising in Social Studies and Geography for Lower Secondary and O-Level students. When I joined the Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP), I decided on tutoring students because I saw how my peers struggled during their National Examination periods. Between 2024-2025, I have tutored 20 students from different school in English (Os) and Mathematics (Ns). 18 of whom have managed to enter a PFP course of their liking, having an EMB3 of <=12. The remaining two have decided to either undergo Secondary 5 to achieve a Ordinary Certificate, and to pursue a course in ITE, respectively.

Hi! I’m Gwen, a pre-university student who has recently graduated from Hwa Chong Junior College and is currently awaiting my A-Level results. I tutor Upper Secondary Mathematics and Chemistry, and my teaching style is patient and structured, with a strong emphasis on building solid conceptual foundations. Having been part of the Science and Mathematics Talent Programmes at Nanyang Girls’ High School and Hwa Chong Institution for the past four years, as well as participating in a year of research at NTU, I am deeply passionate about math and science. I teach through summaries, followed by topical practice and regular recall of previously learnt content to ensure consistent understanding. For students who have gaps from earlier years, I focus on bridging the basics and prioritise understanding over memorisation. As examinations approach, lessons become more practice-focused, and I also guide students on how to study independently and effectively in the long term. Finally, being close in age helps my students feel comfortable asking questions, and through tutoring secondary school students via volunteering programmes and private arrangements, I have helped them rebuild confidence, strengthen their foundations, and improve consistency in their work.

The experience I have had is primarily from tutoring students which has allowed me to connect with different students. Over the years, I have tried to learn effectively which is something I will work with students to do by creating a game plan with them. I will also focus on how they gain confidence in the subject by doing practices effectively and ensuring they understand their mistakes. I know how to keep students engaged while adapting lessons to their individual learning styles and I hope to make learning fun and effective. I have done well academically due to these study techniques and this has been recognised when I was awarded the Dean's List in Biology and top in level for Global Studies.
