I am currently holding a full time job in a bank. However, I have a strong interest in teaching and helping students improve academically. I am patient, responsible, and enjoy working with children. I have a good understanding of subjects in Mathematics, English, Chinese and Science, and I always try to explain concepts in a simple and encouraging way. I believe every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style according to their needs and pace. Through tutoring, I hope to help students build confidence in their studies and achieve better results. I am also committed to being punctual, well-prepared, and supportive throughout the learning process. I had experience in tutoring back in my younger school days for about 3-4 years. However, I have stopped tutoring for about more than 15 years. Nevertheless, I am confident that I will still be able to contribute positively to my students’ academic journey. I began tutoring English after graduating from Raffles Institution. I have attained an A* in PSLE English (old system) and an A1 in O Level English. At RI, I obtained As for General Paper, English Literature, and English Linguistics. I’ve taught over 10 JC students H1 GP. On average, my students notice grade improvements of 3 grades within 6 months (eg. E to B). My most notable improvement was a J2 student who improved from an D in their Prelims to an A in the A Levels. During essay lessons, I offer my students my own self-written essay and provide my students with stronger examples to buttress each of their points. During comprehension lessons, I attempt practice papers and give my students practical tips for tackling the exam. I tutored a student who improved from an E8 in their first attempt to a B4 in their second attempt at O Level English. I have also tutored a student who improved from a C6 in Prelims to an A1 in O Levels in a matter of 4 months.

I have been doing part time tutoring since I was a student in university, and mainly teach English and English Literature. I also teach primary school Mathematics. I used to work in a publishing house that produces assessment books where I also played a part in creating its content, so I am very familiar with the school syllabus, and have also kept myself on to date on the recent changes. I am a very patient teacher who believes that answering techniques are extremely important in excelling for English, and will make sure that my student becomes adept at knowing what the questions are asking for before attempting. I also focus a lot on clarity of writing and will ensure my student gets enough practice, as this skill will be even more important for them when they progress to the working world.
