I am currently a Y3 undergraduate (as of AY24/25) studying at NUS Law. I was previously a student of Raffles Institution under the 6-year Integrated Programme. I obtained a result of AAAB/A for my A levels in 2019. I am looking for students to teach A level GP essay tuition weekly/bi-weekly because it is a subject that I am personally interested in and have done well in myself. At the same time, I believe that my course of study has honed my ability to impart essay writing and linguistic skills effectively. Lastly, despite my lack of previous experience, I believe that my youth allows me to relate better to current students and the recent academic landscape, as well as anything generally related to post JC/uni affairs in general. I believe that one on one personal coaching is the most effective way of advancing one’s proficiency in A level GP essays, because the subject is designed to assess one’s creativity and individuality of thought. These skillsets are best honed via tailored feedback. My lesson plan will revolve around question interpretation and answering techniques, followed by providing critical evaluation of the student’s practice attempts. Hands on practice is much more effective than the lecturing of abstract concepts. Given reciprocal effort on the student’s end, I am confident in helping to elevate his/her standard of proficiency in writing, as well as impart a more nuanced outlook on life in general, which are helpful life skills for A levels and beyond.

Mr Melvin Koh has accumulated a decade of experience as an economics tutor in Singapore. After scoring straight As for all subjects in the ‘A’ Levels (including a distinction in Economics ‘S’ paper (aka H3 Economics)), he was awarded a Scholarship by the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 2002 and went on to study Economics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). He graduated with a First Class Honours in Economics and was awarded a placing on the prestigious University Scholars Programme President’s Honour Roll. He also topped the entire Economics Honours Batch in his year and was awarded the Economic Society of Singapore Gold Medal. Mr Koh has also come in top in two international Economics essay writing competitions, with prize winnings of more than $10k. He has written 2 Economics guidebooks for ‘A’ level students so far. I am currently a Final Year undergraduate student in NUS, studying Business Administration with a major in Finance and Economics. I was from Dunman High School in the Integrated Programme. I took H2 Physics, H2 Chemistry, H2 Mathematics and H2 Economics (PCME), and I scored A for all of them. I had 7 Distinctions, which meant that I am strong in the languages (English and Chinese) as well. Therefore, I believe that I will be competent in teaching the subjects that I excel in. Moreover, in my current degree, I am also practising Mathematics and Economics on a regular basis, hence I believe I am able to explain higher level concepts well. I have taught a few students in the past (Mathematics, Chinese and Chemistry), and they all excelled and scored distinctions in their respective national examinations. I enjoy teaching as I am fulfilled when I am able to help others, and I do not believe in memorizing concepts. I am willing to explain concepts to students in different ways until they are able to grasp it, which I feel is the most important part of learning and excelling. I am also responsive, and I welcome students texting me and asking me about questions even outside of tuition hours. I am also open to answer and address any doubts regarding schools/universities/courses to take. I prepare my own materials for students, so that they can gain additional practice beyond school work and also broaden their horizons.
