As a teacher, I specialise in making learning languages engaging and relevant for different age groups, as well as tailoring the lessons to the student's needs. I am currently focusing on teaching secondary and JC Chinese and adults English. As a translator and interpreter, I am able to help English-speaking students learn Chinese in an effective manner as I am familiar with their pain points in learning Chinese. My students who only speak English have shown great improvement in grades and interest levels in Chinese (one improved from B4 to A1 in a span of 3 months and last year I coached a Sec 4 student with a borderline pass in Chinese to B3 at O’level in less than a year and a JC student to improve her Chinese speaking and expression). I did this for roughly two years through Zoom, because the time that I was in the program was during the height of the pandemic. The experience was overall positive as most of my students were able to improve their grades during the in-time for the mocks and also the final exam.

Over the last 4 years, I've mentored 6 students spanning mainly from primary to secondary levels. During which I employed a holistic learning approach which aims to not just seek grades, but also to nurture curiosity with emphasis on deep understanding. With my interdisciplinary academic background, I can reference insights from various fields in my lessons, ensuring a well-rounded learning experience. I prioritize deep understanding of subjects over rote memorization, as they helps to ensure longer-term retention and comprehension. I also have a good track record of helping students overcome academic hurdles and achieve good improvements in their grades. Some of my more notable achievements is managing to help a barely passing student to achieving a solid B in Science for their PSLE from P3 - P6, a Math student of mine also managed to get B in PSLE for Math from a C and to consistently getting A's in Sec 2. Another student I mentored from Sec 1 - Sec 3 witnessed a significant leap, advancing from a C in lower sec to an A in Physics and Chemistry. My greatest achievement was when I had a student in P5 who had failed in P4 Math to getting an A in the final exam and no longer needing to take up tuition as she took initiative to learn the next year's syllabus herself after her final exam.

Years of teaching 18 years. Home tutor 1-1 to about 40 pupils all these years. I was a contract and long term relief teacher with MOE after graduation for about 2 years. I had taught students in 1-1 tuition from K2 to Sec 2 for subjects, Science, Chinese and English . I provide my own subject notes, print useful worksheets for the students and also use assessment books. Recent Results: My recent English pupil obtained 29/36 for her compo in P5 SA2, highest in her class. Another P5 pupil went from borderline fail to improvement to 60 percent overall. P3 pupil scored around 80 percent in English. It depends on the standard of the pupil and they had mostly improved from their previous grade in their end of year exams.
