During my time at university, I tutored nine students, six of whom achieved an A grade in E Math and Math for their O/N levels. In addition, I served as a teaching assistant for "Introduction to Statistical Theory" and "Introduction to Econometrics" at SMU. The Economics degree at SMU is math-intensive, involving complex concepts such as differentiation, integration, and a strong foundation in mathematics. My journey as a teaching assistant began after I had already been tutoring my juniors. One of my friends jokingly suggested I should become a tutor due to my ability to explain concepts effectively. Taking this as a compliment, I decided to pursue tutoring more seriously, which ultimately led to helping six students achieve top grades in their O/N level Math exams

Back in Junior College, I was teaching English to students from Princess Elizabeth Primary School. I use analogies to teach strategies on tackling tricky exam questions. By guiding my students into acting whenever we learn new similes, descriptive phrases, I encourage creativity and imagination (useful for compo). I will also teach them how to grasp complex words, using tone. By associating fun experiences to English learning, I cultivate their love for the subject as well as build up their confidence (useful in oral). I will also occasionally bring up discussions related to local issues to encourage new perceptions and hone their ability to structure their sentences and articulate their ideas effectively (useful for paper 2). Regarding paper 2, I went through papers with them, identifying their weakness (which is usually comprehension where they are unable to answer the question directly, and mcqs where they do not know the meaning of all the options given). I teach them the correct way to study, before teaching them the correct way to answer. Regarding student improvement, the teacher of the students I taught told me that they are more confident during oral practices in school. In their Paper 1 (composition), they used fresh new vocabulary which makes their writing more enticing. Through my lessons, they learnt to be more descriptive and learnt how to effectively format essay plans before starting their paper. Lastly, in terms of Paper 2, the teacher told me that the students I taught used annotations, which shows that they are able to understand each option instead of guessing them.

Fulltime tutor & former tuition centre teacher 11 years experience teaching IP, O levels, A levels, JC, MYP, Pre-IB, IB Economics and Mathematics I also taught in Benjamin Maths tuition centre for 3 years. I have taught students of all JCs for the past 11 years. Students show minimum 2 grades of improvement 2023 final grades: 8 students (7 A and 1 B) 2024 final grades: 9 students (all A) Based on my experience of 11 years in tutoring JC Mathematics, I am aware of not only the relevant syllabus, but also how I can adapt it to different students’ learning styles. Hello, I’m Erwan. I started tutoring in 2021, teaching mainly lower sec maths, but also took over some students who were struggling with their O/N-Level preparations.
