Experience
I graduated from NTU with a Bachelor of Business degree (Honours). Prior to that I had scored four As for my A-levels (Maths C, Further Maths C, Physics and Chinese) and 10 points for my L1R5 at O-levels (A1s for E. Maths, A. Maths, Chinese and History). In 2021, on my own initiative, I took a course in Singapore Polytechnic and obtained a Specialist Diploma in Applied Drama & Psychology in Youth Work. This allows me to better understand and deal more effectively with children and youths in their studies and personal development.
I’ve been giving tuition for more than thirteen years. I’m very patient with my students and able to establish a good rapport with them. Particularly, I will slowly help them to develop an interest in the subjects and with that, it will be much easier for them to learn and excel well in them. Once they built up their confidence in the subjects, they will naturally be more keen to work on the subjects and do even better.
Relevant Results: While not all my students achieved As in PSLE/GCE ‘O’ Levels for the subjects I taught them, I get satisfaction from knowing that their grades improved during my time with them. In particular, in two instances, I managed to get students who were non-native Chinese speakers to obtain decent grades in Chinese at both their final internal and external examinations. For those students who are weaker in Mathematics and Science, I will guide them in understanding the questions and learning the techniques in answering. There may not necessarily be only one way in approaching and answering the questions.
As every student learns differently, I tailor my approach to suit the individual student, using materials (the Internet is great source of such materials) that stimulate that particular student’s interest and selecting appropriate incentives to reward effort and improvement (provided, of course, the material is in line with the MOE syllabus).
