For academics, I have helped students with learning difficulties turned around their grades from fail to good passes, some scoring. For neurotypical students, pacing is important. I get along well with students and parents to work together as a team to help students excel. Piano: Have been teaching piano for more than 25 years, on part-time basis while still studying and also while working in Tokyo, Japan. Became full-time from 2004 for 8 years, taking in students with special needs from 2009. I produce results, with 80% distinction passes for piano practical and theory, beginner to Grade 8 for practical, Beginner to Grade 6 for theory. I taught secondary 1 express math for the past 1 year. My teaching methodology is to first teach the concept, then I would do some practice questions with the tutee with my guidance, afterwards the tutee would attempt some questions independently. Every week, before I teach a new topic, I would do a recap summary of the previous topic to refresh the tutee's memory. I provide summary sheets and mini tests, I am also able to provide help to the tutee via whatsapp outside tuition hours.

I am a trained Eye-Level Maths and English teacher and operated a tuition enrichment center for both subjects from 2012 to 2015. Many students, aged 4 to 16, saw significant improvement in their academic performance, with numerous students achieving their personal best grades in school tests across public, private, and international schools in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, and Singapore. This success contributed to the growth of the enrichment center from one student to over 100 within four years. In addition to providing tuition, I also offer positive coaching and nurturing to empower students to become self-directed and self-motivated learners. This approach has helped many students develop lifelong learning skills that have shaped their academic success. I am an experienced and trained Licensed Professional Counsellor, in addition to being a certified Maths and English teacher with Eye-Level. These qualifications give me an edge in working with students with Special Education Needs. I am now returning to work as a full-time tutor.

i taught primary school chinese at EduFirst Learning Centre for 1 year. Some of them attended Yishun Primary School, Ang Mo Kio Primary School and also Pei Chun Public School. Initially their grades were AL7 (20-44) and final results were AL6/5. For oral, my ex students were not able to score reading out loud component however after 12 lessons, they were able to articulate well and also pass the component with a score of 7-8 out of 10 I had a student who was having trouble with Chinese pronunciation and tone, which is a critical component of the language. We practiced proper pronunciation of Chinese words and practiced distinguishing between different tones. The student's ability to pronounce Chinese words improved significantly, and they became more confident in their communication skills. I am an enthusiastic and supportive tutor, continually seeking ways to motivate my students. I would build rapport with my students and use positive reinforcement to help them achieve their goals. I believe that there is no one-size-fits-all teaching methodology that works for all students. Instead, I think it's important to have a flexible approach and adapt to the individual needs and learning styles of each student. As for my teaching style, I recognize that every student has their own unique learning style and needs. Therefore, I tailor my teaching methods and approach to each individual student. I listen to my students, ask questions, and work collaboratively with them to find the best approach for their learning needs.

Taught undergrads in Electrical, Materials Engineering at University of Toronto Canada from 2012-2018 during my PhD stint. Lectured post-graduate courses in 2019. Also taught high school summer camp in 2014-2017. Was contract lecturer at NTU Singapore in 2023 Jan-Jul. The group of undergrads I was tutoring in NTU had averaged B/B- but got A- to A+ averaged after one semester. Taught Calculus I, II; Materials Chemistry; Physics I; Metals & Ceramics; Optics; My teaching approach is generally to break down the subject into the smallest digestible chunks and making sure their foundation is strong. It's better to discuss the concepts first before diving into the details. It's not necessary to force the student to remember every aspect, forgetting and refreshing the details is better for long term retention.
