I went overseas for my degree, University of San Francisco to study for 4 years, I came back and started working full time in the finance sector for almost 8 years now and also tutoring part time during weekends. I taught underprivileged students in a primary school how to read, write and draw. These students had difficulty in focusing and always were distracted, however I was trained by Heartware Network how to tackle this and catch their attention and focus, hence enabling them to increase their confidence in teaching and they were more attentive over time. I also have casually taught my young cousins and junior college friends how to approach maths and science questions along the way. Currently learning more experience how to teach students by my own tuition teacher. Over the past few years, I participated in numerous volunteering initiatives whereby I got to mentor groups of primary school students (4 students per group). I learnt that to engage a group of primary school students fully, I have to implement gamification techniques such as gamified quizzes, point systems, leadership boards, and rewards. Doing so allowed me to capture their attention and interest which improved their knowledge retention as they remained focused throughout the mentoring sessions. In addition, I have also been continuously tutoring my peers in Secondary School and Polytechnic which has allowed me to understand how to explain various concepts differently to maximise understanding. I have been teaching after my A levels (part-time undergrad tutor) and all the way till now being a Full time tutor after graduating from NUS. I teach secondary school and IP A and E math, pure and combined chemistry and physics. I also teach JC level H1 GP, H1 and H2 Math.
