Experience
I have been tutoring for 7 years now. I have supported the learning of at least 12 students over this period for Mathematics (primary and secondary levels) and English, specialising in secondary level Mathematics (Additional Mathematics and Elementary Mathematics). My students who sat for their 'O' and 'N' Levels saw improvements in their performance, with those who had previously barely passed their Preliminary Examinations attaining grades of B3 and above, while others achieved distinctions (A1 or A2).
I curate learning materials (topical worksheets, tests, mind-maps, checklists) and pedagogical methods in accordance with the learning styles of my students. My lessons typically focus on mastering theory from the topics before delving into practice questions. I also engage my students in discussions (dissecting questions, identifying patterns, assessing alternative methods) to stimulate their thought processes. As a tutor, I place emphasis on building a robust framework for solving questions, and share examination techniques with my students. I also ensure I build a good rapport with my tutees while maintaining close communication with parents to share feedback for students and provide updates on their progress.
I have acquired teaching experiences during my stint as an MOE Teaching intern, wherein I taught Mathematics and Chemistry at a secondary school, and as an intern at Freshman Online Academy where I conducted online Mathematics lessons for students based overseas (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, El Salvador, etc.). I have also tutored students from International Schools. One of them received an A* for Additional Mathematics and A for Mathematics while the other an A for Mathematics. Separately, having taught IGCSE A Maths for 2 years previously, I am confident of tutoring IGCSE A Maths given its similarity with the O level curriculum and I am well versed in the additional topics (functions, permutations, modulus/absolute values and graphs) having sat for the A levels myself.
