Hi, my name is Paul and my job is to help you improve your English and Math. I am from the UK, which is where I got my Degree in English language and literature from, and I’ve been working as an English and Math teacher here in Singapore for 10 years. Before completing my Degree course, I was an Engineer for 2 years. I have worked with all different ages across many different nationalities. By working in both tuition centers and international schools, I have learned many different ways of teaching, and have used them to create interesting, fun and engaging lessons, for kids and adults. Whatever your needs are, I am able to design, plan, prep and teach you the necessary criteria. Over the years, I’ve helped many children and adults, turning their weakest areas in English and Math, into one of their strengths I have worked with all major criteria revolving around the ages between 8 and 18, this covers PSLE, IGCSE, SAT and SSAT tests. I have students who go to UWC, SAS, SAIS, Dulwich college, etc and also local MOE schools. With my adult students, they provide me what it is they wish to improve on, and we work together in reaching their goals. Over the years, I have had many happy students who were able to reach their personal educational goals, but there is one in particular which stands out the most. I helped a Japanese man with his English for 3 years, as his company required him to obtain a certain level in his TOEIC test. If he failed, his whole family had to be relocated back to Japan. Not only did he pass, but he was promoted and was offered a new role in America. As a student, I used to find Math difficult, as my Teachers only tried teaching me in a way they understood; which I didn’t. This lead me to believe I was bad at Math and I grew up detesting it. Then, I came across a tutor who taught me many different ways to solve problems. I was able to improve my grades in Math substantially and was able to go from a D, to an A, within 1 year. My tutors methods inspired me so much, that I imitate them in my own lessons, as I know they work. The best way to improve English, is by using it as much as possible with as many people as possible. Also, don’t be afraid to make mistakes as they are all part of the learning process. When you make mistakes, as teachers, we will tell you when this happens and provide you with alternative words or phrases. Some advice when learning English, don’t be too hard on yourself. You may set yourself goals which are way beyond your reach, for now. Instead, give yourself little goals to reach, such as: learning the lyrics to your favourite songs, or understand what’s being said in a movie you like, or understanding words in books, scripts and dialogue. Learning a language is like a journey, it can be long, difficult, and at times, you want to give up. But, if you stick with it, the end result will definitely be worth it
