General Background I taught P1-P6 Math and English in Teck Ghee Primary School for 8 years. Contributions to the school and MOE I was involved in development of Math resources such as the heuristic package which involves incorporating the model drawing strategy to word problems. I was also part of the development of the writing curriculum for English Language. I marked PSLE paper 2 from 2014-2016 and then switched to EL Paper and 1 marking from 2017-2020. Private Tutoring Experience. Moreover,I have been tutoring Upper Pri Math and English for the past 12 years and am able to tailor my lesson to your child’s needs. As I was a teacher in a local primary school, I am familiar with the current MOE syllabus and the requirements for PSLE as well. I have been tutoring pupils from quite a number of schools across the island,such as Rosyth School,ACS Jr,SCGS,River Valley Pri and Kong Hwa Pri. I have taught pupils who have improved from Bs to A*s and Cs to As. I’m also currently an online EL writing coach with a local tuition centre and I do curriculum planning and mark compositions with detailed remarks for students to improve their writing skills. Strategies employed in tutoring The key strategies I use for EL would be contextual clues for grammar and vocab and question answer relationship techniques for comprehension to help students to target what the qn is asking for and employing the most suitable strategy to answer it as specifically and concisely as possible. As for Math, I use a lot of heuristics to teach the word problems.By equipping students with the skills linked to knowing the type of questions and the strategies required, they then will be able to apply the strategies to any type of word problem, hence boosting their confidence in the subject and their grades as well.
