Over a span of 6 years, I taught at Red Swastika School, Eunos Primary School, and Changkat Primary School. As a former MOE teacher, I’ve always made it my teaching maxim, “A day without learning is a day wasted.” Hence, in identifying a student’s learning needs is imperative in my tutoring approach. What ensues is I will impart to them the knowledge, techniques, skills and strategies needed to improve their English. Along the way, I will also inculcate in the students the values of respect, perseverance, responsibility, commitment, integrity and diligence. Being a full-time tutor as a former MOE teacher, I've taught primary, secondary, and junior college English for over 20 years in various settings such as a public school, an established tuition centre (JustEdu Tuition Centre), the students' homes, and an online tutoring platform. In addition, I'm a former Reading Specialist with I Can Read and a published author of a children's storybook. By the way, I also hold a diploma in TESOL from London Teacher Training College and a certificate in Teaching IELTS Preparation. Over a span of 20 years, I have taught an enormous number of students, and most of them have scored an A from C in the beginning or even an A*. The students' excellent improvement in their results could be attributed to their due diligence and conscientiousness, as well as the unflagging support of their parents in the learning journey. Most importantly, they readily applied the strategies, techniques and skills I had taught them in their exams. To add to my credentials, I’ve been the former editor and writer of Kaki Bukit Community Centre’s newsletter with a posse of writers under my charge for several years on the volunteering front. For the tutoring part, I do provide supplementary materials to students according to their learning needs discretionarily. Having said that, I believe the key factor in mastering English is helping students to see the elements of fun and joy in learning it.

Currently I am teaching at GRACE OASIS COUNSELLING SERVICES as an English teacher. Upon graduation and obtaining a Masters of Arts in Counselling, I worked with Feiyue Family Service Centre as a counsellor and trainer. As a trainer, I conducted workshops for couples who were intending to get married but underaged. I also carried out training sessions with transnational couples. These trainings took place mainly over Zoom during the pandemic. It was rewarding building rapport with my participants and getting good feedback from them. I also worked as an adjunct lecturer at the Singapore Polytechnic School of Life Skills and Communications for a year. I conducted lessons on effective communication and interpersonal skills to polytechnic students. It was enriching teaching these students as they were eager to learn and found the topic applicable and beneficial. Most recently, I ended my one-year contract as a Flexi-Adjunct Teacher with a local secondary school to focus on my family. I am passionate about working with youths and young adults and am comfortable with public speaking.

I was a full time English teacher for 13 years in Yishun Town Secondary until Nov 2022. I have current resources on the new EL syllabus 2020. I've English resources for the current syllabus and I'm familiar with assessment requirements for lower sec G3-G1. I can prepare customised resources for my students to help them for their weighted assessments and exams as I'm very familiar with how classroom teachers conduct summative, formative & alternative modes of assessments. In between assessments, I have EL resources to build up language skills in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening and grammar. I have taught Sec 3-4 NT, NA and Express the previous 10 years. I specialise in 1 to 1 coaching for Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening skills. I understand what markers are looking out for in a good essay. I can familiarise students with the various questions types and text types for Writing as well as Reading. For lower secondary, growing their confidence in speaking and presenting is key to doing well for Orals. I know how to help students structure their ideas in a coherent manner and present them fluently and confidently.
