My students have improved at least a grade, even for a girl who has been failing science since sec 1, she managed to get a B3 when she was sec 2.

I have been tutoring for more than 8 years now and have helped several students in the past achieve their desired results. As every child is unique, there isn't one fixed approach to help them succeed. I have helped students who used to fail Mathematics to scoring an A by building their interest and confidence in the subject. Recently a P4 boy whom I am currently teaching scored 15/20 for his test. He used to struggle and scored an average 6 to 8 marks out of 20. I started teaching him early this year and he improved bit by bit and Math is now his favourite subject. For Malay lessons, I provide my own materials that I have designed over the years to help my students to improve their vocabulary and writing skills. Over the past 4 years, 3 of my students scored A and one scored A* for PSLE Malay. I have taught both students who come from a Malay speaking family to those that do not and have successfully guided them to scoring distinction. With a vast experience in dealing with children, autism included, students have benefitted from my teaching. I can be firm when students are not focused but at the same time they also will know who to look for when they need help. I do not believe that all children are academically inclined. It just takes the right approach to motivate them.

For the weaker students, i work on correcting any conceptual issues/build a good foundation before challenging them with tougher questions.

For the stronger students, I will continuously challenge them with math olympiad style questions while at the same time focusing on the requirements of the syllabus.

My students have developed interest in the subject, are doing very well in the subject and also have told me that they miss my lessons.

Currently tutoring students from top schools such as Pei Hwa Presbyterian, Nanyang Primary and Henry Park Primary. Very well versed with tricky questions that schools may set.

I believe that it is important to see the big picture and understand what is required before narrowing down into details. I have struggled with misconceptions before but managed to overcome them. With this, I think I can understand what it is like for students and help them to my best ability.

I spend most of my life in Singapore, where having to grow up in a vast knowledge-interconnecting country set a good foundation for me to satisfy my thirst for knowledge. Subsequently, it stimulates my yearning to understand how our body works and compel me to study life sciences. During my undergraduate year (Major in Life Sciences, Specialisation in Biomedical Science, Minor in Geosciences, First Class Honours) at National University of Singapore, I was a recipient of the NUS Kent Ridge Undergraduate Scholarship and was on Dean's List in the Faculty of Science for four semesters. Additionally, I was also working as a private home tutor. I had tutored eight students from secondary schools or junior colleges (from 2011 to 2014). As a private tutor, I could customise and accommodate my lesson plan to adapt to the learning style and pace of the individual student. Furthermore, I liked to motivate my students in their studies to work towards their future aspiration and the combined effort paid off when my students improved. Similarly, I also volunteered to mentor my undergraduate juniors in life science modules where all of them gave positive feedbacks and thus, encouraged me to go into a teaching career. Hence, I decided to become a full-time teaching assistant at National University of Singapore to teach life science modules to undergraduates (from 2015 to 2017). Currently, I am working towards becoming a better teacher. As of now, I have taught several JC biology students, from MJC, SAJC, CJC, YJC, RJC and SRJC. Under my guidance, most of my students improved, with the best grade improvement in H2 Biology from 'Ungraded' to 'A' for GCE “A” level examination within six months. I have also taught secondary biology at Presbyterian High School as an untrained contract teacher and give tuition to “O” level students from various neighbourhood secondary schools. Most of my secondary school students improved under my tutelage, with the best improvement in Pure biology from 'D7' to 'A2'. I provide my own tutorial questions to train my students to think critically. Additionally, audio-visual aids like using PowerPoint slides, providing handouts, showing video clips to emphasise essential points, and using other software (e.g. Socrative, Padlet, Google Classroom, etc.) are effective learning tools with proven impacts.
