I have 6 years of experience tutoring upper primary. I have tutored 2 sec 4 N level Math students and 1 student taking E and A math sec 4 Olevel. All showed tremendous improvement from failing to jumping more than 3 grades. The O level student became more confident with the subject and started to perform better. Now she can even help her friends to answer some questions. 1 Sec 4 NA student has his grade jump from grade 6 to grade 2. I also taught a P6 student and his math grade improved from borderline pass by at least 2 grades

I have a year in total of experience as an English and Maths tutor for two different establishments, both in group environments but often assigned to assist one child in particular at a time. In this environment, I worked with children from ages 4-14 years old, ranging from phonics to more complex Literature texts in English, and up to primary level maths. In all cases we were to mark the child's progress in online exercises in individual track cards, which I would then show to the parents at the end of each tutoring session to explain their progress and aspects to work on. During this time, I helped numerous children achieve excellent grades in their homework, prepped them vigorously for primary level exams, and helped increase their confidence in these subjects. My teaching methods usually revolve around motivating the children with positive feedback, offering my assistance by encouraging them to reach the answer by themselves, and giving input on how to improve on their weaknesses.

I have also helped a young Sri Lankan adult in improving her English to cope with her Diploma education here, as part of my voluntary work.

I believe in practising hard for the English exam, but unless the student also sees the value of the language in his/her future education, career etc, it will be difficult to motivate him/her to appreciate the learning process and make an effort to do well in exams. Hence I would engage the student in interactive activities to help him/her see how a proficiency in English can improve his/her communication abilities and thereby their lifestyle.

I had one year experience in giving Secondary School Science tuition (Bio/Phys/Chem) to an RGS student, and her Chemistry grades have improved by a grade. I have also prepared materials within the school, whereby I give students JC1 Chemistry notes that I made to prepare them for Chemistry Olympiad as well having to teach them subsequently.

As I currently study at NUS High, the curriculum is accelerated, such that students in it have more or less finished H2 content for Maths and Science by Year 4. As I am currently Year 5 and have accelerated the school's module for Chemistry by 1 year, hence, I have already finished the Chemistry Syllabus till H3 and learnt undergraduate content in the Chemistry Olympiad modules. I have performed very well in Chemistry, as shown by my CAP of 5.0/5.0 for the subject.
