Experience
I have been teaching Chinese as a private tutor for about 11 years
To nurture my students interest, I encourage them to read, by lending them books from my own collections.
To help them master the subject and score well, I follow the syllabus closely so that they can master all the essential vocabularies. On top of this, I also provide them with a broader picture using tools. In addition, if their standards have improved into 75 marks and above, I will teach them vocabulary so that they can pick up more word phrases.
Many of my students, who started with an attitude of no interest in Chinese, become interested and thus score well. Example one of my P4 students, when he scored 73 mark for SA1 exam, told me it is good enough as he has no interest in Chinese. His result in SA2 improved to 86 marks! This made him eligible to do higher Chinese the following year. Another P5 student who had 'given up' on Chinese, score a 'B' from his usual 'C' after I taught him for 6 months. Now this student is so highly motivated that his next target is a distinction. Such change in attitude can be achieved through proper coaching.
I have my own notes and worksheets too.
Results of students for year 2022, just to quote a few:
1) Sec 4 student scored B4 for her GCE “O” level, she only expects to pass.
2) Sec 1 student’s year end result is 58.5, from fail in WA3,
3) P5 student, whom I only started teaching this year, scores 63, from 46 in P4 (according to what he told me).
4) P3 student will be awarded an “Improvement in Chinese” award in his school.
