I participated in a peer tutoring program teaching physics and math when I was in secondary 4. Throughout my secondary school and IB life, I have helped my peers with math, physics and chemistry questions. I am amicable, enthusiastic and patient in explaining concepts to students interactively. Teaching with an emphasis on real-world contexts is essential in my opinion to cultivate an interest and long-term understanding of concepts.

Education: BA (Hons) in English Literature from the National University of Singapore (1st), PGDE (Secondary) from National Institute of Education (Distinction), MSc Literature and Modernity from University of Edinburgh (Results Pending) Pedagogy: While my fundamental goal is to help my students achieve the grades they desire for their internal/national assessments, I enjoy helping them find a way to enjoy and appreciate literary works. I can empathise with the struggle to connect to a subject and not ‘get’ the value of it, but I am happy to say that all my tutees have not only graduated with exceptional results, but have ended their tuition journey with a greater love for literature. (My most recent Sec 4 student, who wanted to swear off literature, ended up developing a passion for the subject through tuition and taking up H2 Literature when she enrolled in a JC!) I take the time to understand the specific challenges each student is facing and customise my lessons and worksheets to cater to these needs. Lessons involve lots of discussion and collaborative analysis, and writing practices which I provide immediate feedback on. I communicate consistently and effectively with parents. I understand that parents might not be extremely familiar with the school syllabus or how to address the subject demands. I am always happy to keep parents updated about their child's/ward's progress, and adjust my lessons to suit their requests.

I tutored underprivileged primary school children for 3 years, helping them with subjects such as math and science. Since this was still during the peak of Covid, sessions were held online and I made use of practice papers, as well as online games to help students understand the subject better.
