I have one year of experience teaching a Primary 5 student mathematics. His grades then improved from AL6 to AL3 for his final year exam. I believe that to do well in math, it is important for the student to understand the concept i.e the reasonings behind the formulas, hence, I like to spend more time explaining to them until they can grasp the concept. I would also provide a 'cheat sheet' that summarises the formulas for the student's easy reference, as well as prepare more questions outside of school work for them to practice.

I was part of a peer mentoring programme back in my secondary school in Secondary 3 and helped out lower sec students with Elementary Mathematics to help improve their grades. It was a very worthwhile experience because one of the students told me that they better understand the math problems now and are better able to apply which was my personal goal for the mentoring programme. I managed to teach in an efficient way and make the students understand where their mistake was. My teaching methodology is to first review concepts where the student is struggling in and then do questions under those topics. Then i will go through one question by one question and if he/she got a question wrong i will teach them and after that i will make sure that the student is able to re do the same question again next week without getting it wrong to make sure that he/she understands where he/she went wrong. I also personally use this study method which has proven to be effective and is also the sole reason why i think this method of teaching is sure to bring about changes.

I have two years of experience tutoring primary school students (typically from P2 to P5) once a week as it was part of an extracurricular activity in school. I usually taught Math and English and occasionally Science. I also have two siblings (Sec2 and P2) whom I tutor and help with homework, so I am familiar with tutoring children and using different methods to maintain their attention during tutoring (especially for the younger ones).
