As a Year 2 Computer Science and Mathematics double major student at NUS, I have a strong academic foundation and a passion for teaching. I excelled in my 'O' Levels with A1s in E-Math, A-Math, Pure Chemistry, and Pure Physics and attained A’s in H2 Math, H2 Physics, and H2 Chemistry for my 'A' Levels, achieving 86.25 RP. My dedication was recognized with the SMU SCIS Achievements Scholarship in 2023. I have tutored 9 secondary, 5 primary, and 2 IB students in Math, significantly improving their grades. More than half of my secondary students secured A1/A2s, my primary school students mostly achieved Grade 1s, and my IB students saw great improvement. I also guided my younger brother to A1s in all his 'O' Level STEM subjects. I take a patient and flexible approach to tutoring, adapting to each student’s learning style and breaking down complex concepts into simple, manageable steps. Over the span of a year, I volunteered to tutor Primary 6 Mathematics for low-income students at Ang Mo Kio Primary School to allow them to have the resources to perform well like their peers. We were not informed of their performance. However, the programme was effective with AMPKS continuing this partnership with Raffles Institution for future batches. Throughout this experience, I coached the students. Instead of giving them the right answer, I asked the right questions such that the students are able to come to the right answers themselves. Hence, instead of spoon feeding the students, I guided them and letting them think critically themselves such that they were able to emulate such thinking on their own in exams.

I have 3 years of experience teaching both primary and secondary school math in a tuition centre. For primary school level, I have taught P5 and P6 and for secondary school level, I have taught S2 and S3 (both NA and express). Throughout my tutoring journey, I have seen improvements in my students grades. For example, after giving tuition to 2 P5 students, they are able to maintain their grades at AL2. As for my secondary school students, they improved from D7 to B4, B4 to A1 and B3 to A1. In addition, I have also participated in volunteer tutoring in the following agency: RiverLife Community Service and CampusImpact. As a student studying social work in Nanyang Polytechnic, these opportunities allows me to meet people from all walks of life and gave me a chance to make an impact in other's life by being a befriender and support the academic development of disadvantaged children. Currently, I am a private home tutor to 10 students (P1, P3, P4, P5, P6, S3). Based on my tutoring experiences, this is how I am going to conduct my lesson: - recommending parents 2 books that I will use during lesson (main book that will be use for teaching and trying out the practice questions and a workbook for students to apply the concepts they have learn during lesson in their homework.) -providing 2 sets of SA1 and SA2 paper for students. (will provide them with more resources if needed - base on their progress as well) -extra worksheets targeting on the weaker topics - checklist to keep track of topics that have been taught in school and also the topics that have been taught during tuition (easier for tutor to pace the lesson) -cheat sheet for students before exam It is definitely every tutor's goal to see improvements made by our students. However, before that can happen, I would use the first few lessons to understand my student better such as his/ her strong and weak point and their perception on the subject that I am teaching. This way, I am then able to adjust my teaching accordingly and hence better deliver my lesson. Instead of continuously pointing out my student's weak point and reprimanding them, I chose to use a strength-based approach in my teaching so that my student will be motivated and willing to work towards their goal.
