As a specialist English tutor, I specialise in English Language for Primary and Secondary Levels as well as English Literature for Secondary Levels. To me, English Language is a supremely beautiful and valuable language. I also wish to encourage my students to see the beauty of English Literature and to appreciate its merits.
At the tuition centre which I am based, I am the curriculum writer for Upper Primary in-house materials. Since 2021, the materials, which are aligned with MOE syllabus, have been used to great success for the centre's students.
As a private tutor, I have a wealth of materials and information to share with my students. I have plenty of materials which I have already prepared. Additionally, I make sure that I stay abreast of changes in examinable components and that I constantly create new/ updated content.
To be practical, I wish to highlight the absolute importance of performing well in Primary English to qualify for enrolment in desired Secondary Schools.
Regarding Secondary English, it is the L1 in L1R5 / L1R4. It is also the EL in ELR2B2. Clearly, English is #1 in all admission requirements after Secondary School.
Consequently, I advise that students of all ages start lessons early so as to learn English well.
I take pride in ensuring that my students build a solid foundation in English. I use the “Learn – Understand – Apply" approach to coach my students as I strongly believe in practising the cycle of effective learning which involves acquisition of both skills and content, followed by reinforcement and review.
I must stress that students have to show up consistently for class and work earnestly. After all, academic success is a partnership between teachers/ tutors and students themselves.
