I have at least ten years of teaching English as a private tutor. I taught quite a number of foreign students, preparing them for entry into the local schools and I continued to coach them till they were able to stand on their feet, which usually took about two years. The first time I coached a student for O level English was a friend's sister, and she scored an A1. Since then I started to teach O levels as well. The new syllabus is totally a different kettle of fish, but I find that my background in English literature helps a lot in teaching this subject. Now I enjoy teaching a diversity of students from all levels and backgrounds, including pre-school and students with special learning challenges. On thing I learn from the language teaching courses I took is that there are more intuitive and less painful ways to learn a language. As such, I pay attention to how the human brain naturally learns. I take a student-centred approach, respecting students' learning style and seeking to maximise their strengths rather than focus on weaknesses. What I want to impress on my students is that while it is necessary to sit for exams, learning can be a joy.

I have been teaching for the past 8 years, since my University days in NIE/NTU. Prior to being posted as a full time teacher, i had taught in a private school/tuition centre. I had taught in a secondary school for the last 6 years, and the subjects that I had taught includes:

As a former secondary chinese teacher, I am familiar with the new syllabus of textbook, the new O level exam format. I had been teaching in secondary school for 6 years. I taught two batch of Sec 4 classes who took their O level exam in 2015 and 2016. I had conducted many remedial lessons in school for those are very weak in chinese. I am willingly putting my effort in teaching those are weak in chinese with different teaching methods. I think that the most important is to engage with student more and understand how he/she thinks for chinese subject. I have enough patience to deal with those who are not keen on chinese.

Starting from 29 June 2017, I just posted to Kong Hwa School to teach primary students. Currently, I am taking P1 and P5 classes. Although it is two different age of children, I still able to handle them well. Content wise, even though i just start teaching for few weeks, i am slowly know more about the syllabus of P1 and P5 Chinese. With my past experiences of teaching sec 1 student, i know what the primary student should learn before they enter in secondary school. If parents believe in me, I will try my best to help the student improve their chinese standard.
