I have been an English and Humanities teacher for about 20 years. Last 12 years were spent at RGS doing a variant of regionalism, social studies and history. We work with the girls to do academic research, term paper writing, and critical thinking with a underpinning in philosophy. So this is dissimilar to the assessment structure in the regular Os and As. But we do prepare our students for A level humanities and GP. Average grade point for my students across classes range from a GPA of 3.2 – 4.0, which is in regular terms, a B3 and above. I have had students who have had difficulty with reading and writing, and we have had generally good outcomes for them with at least a grade improvement over Sec 3-4.
