I have 13 years of teaching expertise as an English language specialist. I am familiar with MOE syllabus and IGCSE syllabus. Over the years I have tutored a multitude of local students and international students from various countries. Following an assessment on the first lesson, the student will be given materials that are personalised to his or her needs. This enables me to assess the student's English proficiency and better understand the materials required for successful progress in the language. In order to better answer questions, the student will be taught inferential skills and how to recognise contextual clues when working on comprehension. Techniques for content development, concept expansion, and character development will be taught to help students enhance their essay writing skills, which are all necessary for high essay scores. Grammar and vocabulary-building techniques are included in classes as well. Parents will be informed of their child's progress on a regular basis.

I was a lecturer at Dunman High School and taught H2, H3 Math at the JC section during 2008-2010. Then I became a PhD candidate for Applied Mathematics and served as a Teaching Assistant for undergraduate modules at the National University of Singapore, Mathematics Department during 2011-2015. I also taught JC H2 Math tuition at various branches of Learners' Lodge, a relatively well-known JC tuition hub. I also taught H2, H3 Math and Further Math at Eunoia Junior College during 2017-2021. In this age of increasingly digitalization, I am a fervent advocate of using technology to enhance teaching & learning. I strongly believe my various former experiences with applied math, AI, coding and ICT technology (AI, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and Google Meet, etc) shall place me in good stead to support the learning of my students, if the need arises to engage students with e-pedagogy during these uncertain times in the pandemic. Material with practice questions can be supplied on a regular basis for continual practice and revision. For the cohorts I have taught in Dunman High School & Eunoia JC, about 70% of my students obtain distinctions for the subject of H2 Mathematics. During my PhD years, I have tutored a number of JC students which have generally seen a improvement of 2 grades in H2 Mathematics. I have received teaching awards from the Mathematics department of NUS for the years 2013-2015. I also have experience teaching Python, coding, data science and machine learning.

I enjoyed teaching my peers since a student. During my postgraduate studies, I prepared tutorial materials and tutored full-time and part-time undergraduate students on various subjects in Mechanical Engineering for four years. I was a teaching assistant in NUS for full-time and part-time undergraduate and graduate students on subjects related to control systems and neural networks. We are not allowed to know the students' grades. However, I have received feedback from several students mentioning their satisfaction and gratitude for my tutoring. I tutored Mathematics to students in P3, P5, and Sec 3 for nine months. Typically, my students' grades started as a fail and improves to beyond pass after a few months of tutoring. I adapt my communication style to the students' preferences and encourage the students to think about the methodology instead of memorizing the solution step-by-step. If appropriate and given permission, I may work on the student's relevant skillsets instead of focusing on the school syllabus. Sometimes weakness in the relevant skillsets becomes the bottleneck in the student's learning process, focusing on these relevant skillsets can indirectly improve their grades.

Currently teaching 3 classes of JC1 GP at Hwa Chong Junior College as a Relief Teacher/Teaching Assistant. 3 years of experience teaching JC students for GP and H2 Physics, with a total of 10 students. All students have had grade improvements so far. The greatest improvement would be from a grade U to grade B for H2 Physics in Alevels. How I conduct lessons: I will go through by topics, especially the topics that the student is weaker in. Importantly, I begin by highlighting the important principles and concepts within the topic and show the relationships between different formulas. Then we will go through some of the common questions and I will explain the method to answer them, including certain key words or logic in the answers. After completing all the topics, I will select exam papers for the students to complete, which we will go through thereafter, paying close attention to the similarities in types of questions and also how to dissect specific questions. I can explain concepts in a logical and concise manner to make sure that the student can understand the subject fully, instead of just memorising methods to answer questions. I also have access to notes and papers from Hwa Chong Institution, which will help in teaching.
