I am currently a Malay language teacher in one of the anchor operator preschool in Singapore. I have been teaching Malay for 1.5 years for children aged 3-6 years old. My teaching methods are through modelling attitudes, approaching problems and behaviour towards others rather than just telling them. I believe that in order to acquire a certain language, the language has to be spoken often. One such way would be to ask questions in that language so as to provoke the children's thinking. The children I have taught for the past 1.5 years have shown tremendous improvements in their spoken Malay as well as listening. They are more confident to ask questions and answer questions in Malay using the words that they could remember despite it being said in broken Malay. The children enjoyed attending my lessons and thus, showing their spirit to learn and love the Malay language.
