Teaching Approach: I build and flow my lesson plans from my student’s strengths and passions to encourage interest, creativity, and critical thinking for synergistic learning. On the same note, I am also empathetic and attentive to my students’ needs. I keep myself updated on the MOE, IGCSE and IB's English Syllabus. My lesson plans and teaching style have also been largely informed by scientifically proven methods—from my background in psychology—to help facilitate optimal learning for my students. Experience: 4 years tutoring English. Taught Grade 1 Australian student with severe dyslexia in English and Maths, Sec 2-4NA student in English, Sec 2-4NT student with inattentive ADHD in English, Sec 1 Express student in English, several Primary 1-6 students in English, and IB English Paper 1. Currently tutoring a P1 student with ADHD and dyslexia, a P3 and two P5 students in English, a Sec 2 Express student in English, a Grade 10 Malaysian student in SPM English, Grade 4 Pre-IGCSE French-Japanese student with mild dysgraphia in English, a Year 3 IGCSE Korean student in English and a K1 child in advanced English and Math (preparing for elite school entry). During my Secondary 3&4 days, I volunteered at CDAC to give science tuition to needy lower secondary school students. The class size was 8, which is rather big for my friends and me. But I was able to help the students by giving them assistance whenever they were stuck on a problem. This helped me gain more experience in terms of being more patient and understanding toward my students because they sometimes may not understand a topic after being taught, and I had to try other form of methods to teach them. Proud to say, a few of my students were able to improve by 2 grades or more, with 3 of them getting A1 for their sciences during their secondary 2. I carried on with my volunteering into my JC days, and expanded my teaching to upper secondary school students (mainly from Zheng Hua, West Spring and Swiss Cottage Secondary School), specializing more in sciences. Most of them were in the range from D7-C5 during their end-of-year for Physic and Chemistry during Secondary 3. Good thing is that I was able to guide them and improve their subjects, with 3 of them getting A1/A2 in their Physics, and 4 of them getting A1/A2 in Chemistry for their O levels. Currently, I am teaching pure Chemistry and Physic to two Sec 4 student and science to a Sec 2 student.

In terms of tutoring, I have no official experience. However, in University, I was nominated to be a Communications Coach under the Centre for English Communication, to mentor university undergrad students at Singapore Management University for a module called "Writing and Reasoning". As a Comms Coach, I interacted with my students, arranging consultations and reviewing their scripts beforehand. During the consult itself, I would elaborate more on the comments I had left on their scripts and guide them towards the best conclusions without giving them the answers. Over the course of one semester, I had 36 consultations, and some students consulted me multiple times, which validated my teaching abilities. The students that did consult me for multiple assessments achieved A grades for their assignments.

My tutees were from Jurong West Primary, Frontier Primary & Corporation Primary. Most recently my tutee went from AL6 to AL3 for her maths. I also had a tutee that went from a B to A* in the past however I felt that she was naturally gifted and just needed a bit of guidance from me. However, I am very patient as I have always been tutoring my younger brother at home. I have tutored primary school students for the past 5 years and tutored my brother since they were young. I am very patient towards slower learners and am willing to try different methods of explaining. My students' grades have all improved.
