Teaching approach: I believe in getting the basics right and having a good fundamental understanding of the subject. I am patient and will guide the student along any question that he/she cannot solve. In particular, I will use metacognition to teach the student on how to think methodically and utilise computational thinking to help them when solving math problems. I can provide personalised feedback to him/her to tackle commonly made mistakes or any misconceptions. I can also teach the student tips/tricks on how to efficiently solve certain types of common math problems. I am also open to answering any math questions outside of class through WhatsApp. Related experience: I have 3 years of experience with tutoring. Previously took on 3 students as a private tutor for H1 math. All H1 Math students have seen a few grade jumps within a few short months of tuition and are better able to understand and grasp concepts taught, even though one of the student had no background knowledge in A Math concepts previously. I had also previously taken on 2 students for E and A math and both had seen huge improvements in their results. Results wise, I obtained 8 distinctions for my O levels with an A1 for both E and A math, as well as 5 distinctions for my A levels with an A for H2 Math. Mandarin has always been my interest and I hope to make it interesting for my students as well. However, I am aware of the challenges some students face when it comes to learning and appreciating mandarin, therefore I will incorporate visual aids as part of the learning. I am bilingual and will converse in both English and Mandarin. This is also expected from all my students where they will need to code switch as and when. I have been teaching primary school students of upper primary. My current students are P5 and P6 in the west regions. Offline, I have also been mentoring my neighbour and cousin whom are in lower primary as of now, and found the teaching method to be as effective as well.
