I entered tutoring recently and have unexpectedly developed a passion for it. I enjoyed tutoring my tutee and going on the journey with him to better his studies and grades. When I first met him, he was in Secondary 4 and about to take his N-Levels and was struggling with math and physics. He was also not too keen on studying as mentioned by his parents. I guided him and taught him certain tips and tricks that I had used and he began to quickly grasp concepts. I also assisted him in other subjects such as English whenever he requested help, and I am proud to say that ultimately he did really well for his N-Levels and proceeded to enrol into the Polytechnic Foundation Programme. He is now frequently topping his class especially for math and physics since joining the engineering programme. My main takeaway from my tutoring experience was that providing encouragement and therefore motivation accounts for a great deal of teaching and influences how a student accepts and internalises what is taught. I would think that my strength in teaching is that I do not believe in simply memorising, but rather the understanding that goes behind and the steps that we take to tackle questions regardless of the subject. In addition, I have recently been brought onboard by a tuition centre as well. I am confident I can impart knowledge and motivate my tutee to enable him or her to excel.
