After dedicating more than 20 years to a full-time role as a data engineer, I made the decision to resign in January 2024 and pursue a new career path as a full-time tutor. Presently, I'm engaged as a part-time teacher assistant at a Kumon center, where I work with preschool children and provide guidance to students ranging from primary to secondary levels. I have tutored lower and upper primary students on one to one. I had volunteered to assist a class of Primary 4 students with their school work in Al-Rabitah mosque for 1 year.

I have 8 months experience working as a Mathematics tutor at Math Vision Enrichment Centre, from December 2021 to August 2022. During my time at Math Vision, I have gained valuable experience on how to conduct both physical and online lessons. I have also picked up on how to effectively interact with children and young teenagers to motivate them in their studies. With the help of other senior tutors, I have equipped myself with various other teaching skills such as lesson planning, how to prepare coherent and easy-to-understand materials, and how to give constructive feedbacks. I have taught more than one hundred students, ranging from primary school children to secondary school and high school students, with most of them coming from international schools such as Singapore American School or Dover Court International School. Many of my students saw significant improvements in their test scores, and often gave me an excellent rating for the lesson (Math Vision has an online rating system where the students can give a rating for their teacher after each lesson). I am also currently working as an A-Math private tutor for an upper sec student. I am confident in my ability to teach O-Level Mathematics, thanks to my experience working as a teacher assistant back in secondary school and my strong grasp of the concepts. My teaching philosophy is simple: The most important thing about education is not grades, but understanding. I always make sure the students can understand thoroughly why things are done in a certain way, and the importance of each working steps before proceeding. I believe that is what will give them the foundation to solve more challenging problems in the future by themselves.
