Experience
I hold a Bachelor’s degree with double majors in English Language and Sociology, an Honours degree, and a Master’s degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). I was a recipient of the Chng Heng Lay Memorial Prize at NUS and the NUS Research Scholarship, and have published in high-impact international journals. Over my 31 years with the Ministry of Education, I was Head of English Department and taught English at East View Secondary School, Bedok South Secondary School, and Temasek Secondary School, and was also a Senior Lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic. For 25 years of dedicated service in teaching, I was awarded the Long Service Medal (Pingat Bakti Setia) by the Ministry of Education at the Singapore National Day Awards in 2016. As a patient and experienced tutor, I believe every child can succeed in English with the right guidance and encouragement, and I am committed to helping my students build confidence and mastery in the subject. To support my students' progress, I provide targeted instruction that reinforces close reading, inference skills, and precise answer techniques. My approach includes proven strategies for analysing questions, identifying key textual clues, and crafting accurate, well-supported answers. As a specialist in the latest MOE English curriculum, I adopt a highly structured and results-oriented approach in my lessons. Students will be provided with a comprehensive suite of carefully curated learning materials, including detailed notes, model compositions, targeted practice exercises, practice assessments, and past-years' examination papers that are fully aligned with current MOE examination requirements. These resources are designed to systematically strengthen students’ language proficiency, critical thinking, and examination skills while building strong confidence across all components of the English syllabus. All required learning materials will be provided during lessons, so parents will not need to purchase any additional assessment books.
