I have more than 20 years of experience teaching in schools and giving online tuition. Every student has the innate ability to excel. The role of a tutor is to guide the student the right concept, and speed up the learning curve of the student. I love to point out the critical points, and shorten the time needed to learn the most important part for each topic. This helps my students to focus and improve. However, students need to practise the questions so that they will know how to apply the concepts and handle the questions during exams. I also like to ask questions to make my students think and analyse. It is one of the most effective ways to learn. The students that benefit most from me are usually those who are committed and need someone to explain to them the concepts so that they can understand faster. I have many students who have benefited from me, improving from a F to an A grade. My years of experience has enabled me to know the common careless mistakes and where students have difficulty in understanding. I know the different ways of explaining so that they can understand faster and easier.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree with double majors in English Language and Sociology, an Honours degree, and a Master’s degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). I was a recipient of the Chng Heng Lay Memorial Prize at NUS and the NUS Research Scholarship, and have published in high-impact international journals. Over my 31 years with the Ministry of Education, I was Head of English Department and taught English at East View Secondary School, Bedok South Secondary School, and Temasek Secondary School, and was also a Senior Lecturer at Nanyang Polytechnic. I started tutoring when I was studying for GCE A levels at Temasek JC under the PSC Pre-U ASEAN scholarship. During my university days, I taught science,maths at primary to sec3 level and chemistry/biology and physics at JC level. Even after graduating rom NUS, I continued to tutor because I felt I was improving my students academic performance. For example, I taught a normal stream student in combined science and maths for several years. He managed to improve his grades in both maths and combined science from F to B grade. As a result, he managed to get into polytechnic to further his studies. Recently, he appeared in a TV documentary on CNA about his life during the pandemic. I found out that he graduated from university and was married with a kid.
