I tutor my friends and cousins during my free time, and I adopt a consultative approach to teaching. I always encourage them to ask questions to engage their learning more, as well as test them on certain concepts so that they understand the content fully. I graduated from Cedar Girls Secondary with a GPA of 3.92 out of 4 (IP programme) and completed my A levels at Victoria Junior College, scoring straight As for my mathematics in internal examinations. I also actively participate in social innovation competitions, such as the Shell Nxplorer and Microsoft Imagine Cup and attained Top 10 placing for both. I am an active sports person who is disciplined and highly motivated, and obtained the SSSC Colours award for netball, cross country and track and field in 2019, 2022 and 2023.

In the early stages of my career, my professional background is rooted mainly from coaching sports for both children and adult learners. Over the last six years, I’ve transitioned into the realm of higher education, serving as a research and teaching associate at a local education institution. In this role, I’ve delivered guest lectures and tutored undergraduate and postgraduate students towards completion of their research studies and thesis. Today, a particular passion of mine lies in engaging with children – the future leaders and trailblazers of tomorrow. My approach towards teaching involves deconstructing complex concepts meticulously into more digestible components, accompanied by real-world problems serving as illustrative examples to facilitate students’ comprehension. I adapt to different students’ learning styles and use a range of teaching activities to engage as many ways of learning as possible. As an instructor, I am patient and firmly believe that each student has his or her unique strengths and that the learning journey varies for every child. Through my teaching methodologies and interpersonal interactions, I aim to instill a joy of learning in all my students.

I am a former JC teacher from National JC with 8 years of teaching and tutoring experience in H2 Chemistry and I also have a PhD in Chemistry. My former students have commented that I am a patient and caring teacher who can explain concepts very well, and the total number of students I have taught in JC and online tutoring is around 180. My students’ grades improved from U to B, S to A, D to A, C to A, B to A for A Level, and I have a few students who are inspired by my teachings and they go on to pursue Chemistry in universities. I have teaching resources such as lecture notes, PowerPoint slides, past year papers etc., and I can be full-time tutor for the student too. I can only do online teaching via google meet.

Graduated from Nanyang junior college with 88.75rp and 7 distinctions, including a distinction in H3 chemistry. Consistently maintained an A throughout internal exams for chemistry and biology. Attained A for H2 chem/bio/math. Was top in cohort in Zhong Hua Secondary School and best in science and math. O level 9 distinctions with A1 in A/E math and A1 in chemistry/biology. 2 years of teaching experience part time after A levels. Also previously taught part time at a tuition center. Currently teaching one JC2 student H2 chemistry and another sec 4 student E math. Previously taught 2 H2 chemistry students, 1 sec 4 student in O level math and 2 P5/6 students in math and science. Most of my students did consistently in internal and national exams: sec 4 student taking O levels had improvement in results from C5 in prelims to A1 in O levels, student taking H2 chemistry improved from S to B in A levels. I also previously volunteered at my alma mater (NYJC) to mentor JC1 students in chemistry. Every student is unique and has his/her own learning curve. Lessons will be tailored according to the learning speed of the students to create a supportive environment that is conducive for learning. Detailed and individualized feedback will be provided so that students can learn from it. I am a very patient tutor who aims to inculcate the joy of learning in students. MOE is also moving away from route learning towards application. Thus, I strongly believe in wide exposure and teaching beyond the syllabus. To aid students, I have a wide range of materials including assessment books, online materials and well as videos to provide an alternative approach to mundane forms of learning. Homework will be assigned to student every lesson(unless due to heavy workload) and will be marked and returned for analysis. Online lessons can also be an option for parents. I have online materials available for teaching. Classes will be conducted via google meet and lesson materials will be sent to student beforehand. I will annotate on the screen and students are required to take down the notes. Homework will also be assigned virtually and will be marked and graded. Dedicated and committed tutor for the long term. Bilingual in English and Chinese. Can accommodate for last minute lessons and available outside tuition hours.

I have experience in teaching science and combined chemistry to NA(G2) and NT(G1) students. My teaching methods are always to break down large chunks of information to bite size which makes it easier for them to understand. Students can write these concepts down using drawings or as notes whichever medium they prefer to learn in. Once they have grasped the concepts and practiced applying their knowledge with practice questions that I design, their confidence would grow and this results in a positive learning attitude which encourages them to push on even when they face their next challenge. This is how I tutored my students listed below. I have one year of teaching secondary one student(NA) and after tuition, her grades improved from C6 to B3. I have two years experience teaching a sec 3NA student combined chemistry and her grades improved from C6 to A2.

I have tutored 3 secondary 4 students for 2 years, who just completed their O levels, in Elementary and Additional Mathematics, and Biology and Chemistry (both pure and combined). All of them had an improvement of 2 grades within 6 months, with one of them improving from C6 to A2 in Elementary Mathematics. I like to be empathetic while teaching, and try my best to adapt my tuition style, and pace according to the student. For example, I tend to give students breaks every 20 mins so they remain focused, and have time to rest their mind.
