I can empathise with the struggle to connect to a subject and not ‘get’ the value of it, but I am happy to say that all my tutees have not only graduated with exceptional results, but have ended their tuition journey with a greater love for literature. (My most recent Sec 4 student, who wanted to swear off literature, ended up developing a passion for the subject through tuition and taking up H2 Literature when she enrolled in a JC!) I take the time to understand the specific challenges each student is facing and customise my lessons and worksheets to cater to these needs. Lessons involve lots of discussion and collaborative analysis, and writing practices which I provide immediate feedback on. I communicate consistently and effectively with parents. I understand that parents might not be extremely familiar with the school syllabus or how to address the subject demands. I am always happy to keep parents updated about their child's/ward's progress, and adjust my lessons to suit their requests.
