(Kuo Chuan Presbyterian) Student: Jia Yi (2025) Student got an C5 for her WA1 for secondary 4 after starting classes with me for 3 months. She had been consistently failing the subject but had shown improvement since starting classes as we help her to go thru the right textbook content and also how to use the techniques to consistently perform for SBQ. Teaching Philosophy: As a performance educator, the aim for me is to teach my students on how to improve in the fastest way possible, hence I have helped many students who are failing Geography and social studies to pass it and then improve further if the student has the sufficient runway to do it. Many students have gotten 4-6 grade jumps with my classes. (Foreign students I took who had an extremely poor grasp of the humanities have gotten a pass and beyond in the O level within a few months through intense practice and revision) This is done by teaching them different strategies and key points to take note of to tackle the paper. Not only that, I will also teach and emphasize on building their understanding on the marker’s psychology so that by consistently putting themselves in the shoes of the paper setter and the grader, they will know their “enemy” intimately and do what is needed to give them what they want to score. The rest of the lesson plan towards the exam is to practice these strategies and their understanding of the different frameworks and fundamental that Geography and Social Studies require to tackle the different components and to also refine those strategies to the needs of the students to allow them to better improve their capabilities in the subject taught. I strongly believe in the notion that "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail." I emphasize heavily on the importance of “paper strategy” planning to my students so that they would be clear on the steps and strategies to apply for the examinations in each component of the paper, and hence be in “the zone” the minute the invigilator says "You may begin”. ~Teaching materials, notes from MOE teachers, curated worksheets and homework of the latest syllabus used in the tuition centre that I teach are provided. Students do not need to buy any assessment books ~A student Feedback Report is provided to the parent every month to ensure the parent is kept in the loop on the progress of the student.
