I scored A* for English and Pure English Literature. I also studied in GIG Institute (Certified in Phonics) I have been teaching for 11 years at various schools/teaching centres. I teach  English , Creative Writing, Phonics and Science to students ranging from preschool to Pri 5. I’ve taught lower primary math to students between the levels of K2 - Pri 2. I was approached by 2 principals & some teachers to be their kids’ private tutor which led to my path in private tutoring/mentoring. Most of my students have stayed with me for 3-5yrs upon parents’ satisfactory feedbacks/outcomes My students have been able to go from not having English as their first language/failing in the subject at school to scoring between 70-80marks for English with an outcome of extensive progress evident within a short period of time I also taught 2 boys from China before who go to CIS and other students who go to foreign schools as well Upon assessing , a child’s learning habits/blocks/strengths/areas of struggle can be observed & followed up with, along with the right guidance/support needed. I’ve had students scoring a failing grade or not having English as their first language when they started off with me to showing improvement just over the first couple of lessons. Consistently making strong learning gains/progress is essential therefore my students have shown to propel from below grade level to advanced up to AL3-AL2. Giving the kids tools that they can use/apply independently along with having the lessons engaging so as to increase their interest in the subject are things I’ve stood by & found to be highly effective. Being a committed tutor & taking interest in a holistic approach (which I view as important to anyone’s learning or growing journey) has shown great significance in unlocking a child’s full potential. My biggest joy is seeing the smile on their faces as they grow in confidence and see the results of their own capabilities

I will ask students to do a learning test to identify their learning style, i.e. visual auditory, etc., and adjust my teaching style accordingly. Furthermore, I will assess students through short quizzes to identify their weaknesses and test their knowledge. I link Math and Science concepts to real-life examples for the students to truly understand the concepts. My main strategy is making students do past year papers and providing them ways to identify question types and concepts tested so they will be able to handle similar questions during PSLE.
