I am an 18-year-old who has just completed her A-Levels at Catholic Junior College. I will be going to NUS in 2015.

While I have no prior experience in giving tuition, I have performed relatively well in my subjects while in school and will be able to walk my potential students through the rubrics and requirements of the O and A level subjects I can teach. I can give tuition for more 'obscure' subjects such as O Level Pure History, O Level Pure Literature, A level H2 History, A Level H2 Literature and H2 Knowledge and Inquiry. While I did receive a B3 for O Level Pure History, I managed to attain an A1 at my Preliminary examinations in Secondary school. I topped my level for Knowledge and Inquiry in the JC1 Promotional Examinations, receiving an A, and again in my JC2 Preliminary Examinations. I have also come in second in the level for H2 Literature, and have consistently scored good grades for the subject.

I have no experience in formally teaching students, but I have a clear understanding of common misconception and possible mistakes because of my own JC studying experience. As a student who has always excelled in science subjects, I frequently teached my classmates and have obtained good explaination skills. I believe that teachers are not the only group that can teach, sometimes student tutors actually have a better idea of teaching as themselve have went through the learning process.

I have 5 years experience of tutoring for mainly primary level I am very keen in being part of the teaching industry. I have actively pursued a teaching programme in my co-curricular activity to hone my skills as an educator I still vividly remember that there was once when my partner and I were tutoring a kindergarten girl in my pride subject Chinese, she was reluctant and lazy towards learning. My partner tried persuading her but she refused. Eventually, my partner gave up, deterred by the challenge but I preserved. By engaging in a different approach, I asked her to sit beside me as I looked through her past assignment. I firstly praised her for all the questions that she had gotten correct and the beautiful colouring that she did. Then, I slowly guide her to do her corrections and eventually I made her do her homework. I strongly feel that children like to be praised and are wiling to learn if I am patient. Their smiles when they understood my teaching really brighten up my day.

After the first few sessions with these children, I have truly fell in love with educating the young and they have certainly too enjoyed my presence.


Having this strong sense of direction for my future I have geared my education and tried several methods of studying so as to facilitate my teaching in the future. Besides teaching the children in my CCA, I also tutor my niece, who is a lower primary school student, during her holidays. She is an independent learner, catering to her learning style I have adjusted my teaching accordingly, guiding her when necessary. I am a helpful friend that is sensitive to the needs of others, adapting to different situations. After tutoring, I have grown in my patience, love for children and more confident. I am able to impart my pool of knowledge especially in the areas of Chinese and Economics to the younger generation, it really delights and assures me that this is the career for me.
