Experience
Currently I have 8 students for primary level Chinese, Math and Science. I am a Chinese and Math teacher in GoodSchool Tuition Center now, previously I was a Math and Chinese school teacher intern with MOE and Math teacher with The Learning Lab.
I have 2 students for P5 Chinese and Math, 1 student for p4 Higher Chinese, 1 student for p3 Math and Chinese, 2 student for P5 Chinese and Math and 1 student for p1 Chinese and Math and 1 student for Secondary 1 Chinese.
Chinese:
I’ll focus on comprehension passage, answering skills, composition writing based on different topics, oral communication and listening comprehension skills based on comprehension passage, oral passage and having Chinese conversation with students in lesson.
Comprehension, for 阅读理解一, there are MCQ questions and the last question (4marks) is to write a short text based on the comprehension. I’ll provide notes and worksheets to target the different type of passage in comprehension (1) with few practices for students to practice answering so that they can get use to it to such questions in Chinese exam.
阅读理解二: there are different types of answering techniques and formats to different types of questions in this component. I have the worksheets and notes for students to learn the answering skills and to teach them smart way to reading the passage to grasp the main point.
By focusing on comprehension, it will be a good way to learn new vocabulary that can be use to do 语文应用，短文填空，完成对话 components during exam.
By focusing on comprehension , reading of passage and discussing the questions in Chinese helps to improve in oral communication skills.
Listening comprehensions skills is also practiced during every lesson.
For composition writing, I will guide the students to write base on different topics. I’ll provide the helping words, sentences for the content, introduction and conclusion for different topics so that by simplifying composition writing to topics, it allows student to handle composition writing should any topics comes out during exam.
For Math:
I’m a patient and committed tutor who can teach the student for long and prepare them for EOY.
I have 1 student for p1 Math, 1 student for P3 Math, 1 student for p4 math, one student for p5 Math.
I will provide notes and worksheets that follows the MOE syllabus for students. My teaching style is simple, I’ll simplify each topic by highlighting the important component in that topic to take note during exam, this allow the student to be able to identify the key words / key sentences in word problems. By identifying the keywords, I will guide them step by step to solve the word problem through logical reasoning. I’ll also provide common questions that will appear in the exam with model answer so that they have sufficient practice. Topics like fractions, percentage and ratios will often come together in one word problem (5marks), my notes will help the students to solve difficult questions in exam. Other topics can also be combined together which is the common trend now in PSLE. I will also have mini test and Q&A to clarify their doubts and check their understanding in class for each topic.
For paper 1, I’ll focus on the common questions that will appear and also the topics that is always tested in paper 1.
For paper 2, word problems, heuristic questions will appear and I will guide the student to answer all these as well.
I’ve taught PSLE Math to 2 students and they did well in this year’s PSLE, getting AL2 and AL3 respectively from a failed grade.
For Science:
Concept map, drawings, videos and hands-on activity will be included in lesson to make the lesson fun and interactive which facilitate to build a strong foundation and understanding in science. I’ll have notes and worksheets to show the links between topics like Cycles, System, Energy and also the type of questions that will appear in exam. I’ll show them the steps to analyse science questions to score well in Science. Keywords will be heavily emphasised and repeated during lessons to help them with open-ended questions in exam.
I am a Science student , studying Chemistry as my major in NUS hence I know all the skills needed to score well in Science. Smart ways to remember keywords and to understand the concept.
