I have close to 3 years of teaching experience for lower secondary Science. I scored A1 for my O level Science. I have taught 10 students so far and I am currently teaching lower secondary students. Some of my students were from ACS, St Joseph Institution, Queensway Secondary and Bartley Secondary etc. Most of my students were scoring C5 but managed to score at least a B3 some were able to score A1 for their Science. I usually provide my students with basic conceptual notes to reinforce their understanding of the topic and further enhanced their knowledge through past year exam questions from different schools that I have personally compiled based on different topics. Occasionally, we would target topics that my students are weaker in and try to work from there. I am patient and try to incorporate my understanding and empathy towards students' stress. I hope to improve my students' understanding and mastery of science concepts, leading to better academic performance and increased confidence.

I am in the engineering profession for the past 36 years with increasing responsibilities and leadership roles. Now that I am in semi-retirement mode, it is my passion to be able to pass the knowledge to the next generation. Why is a leadership position relevant to mathematics tuition? The value that I can bring to the student is not just the rudimentary rigor of solving mathematics, it is about solving real-world problems. It is hence important that apart from tutoring students the theoretical method of solving the mathematics problems (which is important as they will be taking the O/A level examinations), in my view, the more important aspect is the wealth of experience in the industries I have gained over the years where some of these fundamental concepts have been applied. I hope it can be an inspiration to the students and hence engender their enthusiasms on the subject. This is important as it will make the learning of the subject an enjoyable and lasting journey.

I have volunteered in a childcare centre in Lakeside during my secondary school days where i guided the students there with their homework and assignments. In addition, i would also teach them some basic English, Mathematics and Chinese to supplement their learning in school. Have had prior experience tutoring a P2 AEIS student from China for two weeks. As an undergrad English major at NTU, I am highly proficient in spoken and written English which will provide effective and assuring progress during English tutoring sessions. Some of my main teaching styles for English tuition include extensive practices of MCQ that tackles grammar and vocabulary, deconstructing comprehension passages to enhance writing skills and stringent practice of speaking proper English to build an overall good command of English. Moreover, I am well-versed in the latest MOE mathematics syllabus and strongly believe in developing a solid foundation of basic concepts before attempting critical thinking questions. Some of my teaching styles for mathematics tuition include revision of basic topical concepts, progressive exercises on challenging questions to cultivate problem-solving skills and clarifying complex concepts by depicting real-world scenarios with storytelling. I have up to 1 year of teaching experience with nursery and kindergarten students. These include in-person classes and online classes. All materials will be provided but if parents are free to provide them too. For Phonics classes, I will plan lessons based on tutee’s proficiency level. Lessons Include learning the different sounds of phonics and reading words using phonics. For Reading classes, parents may or may not provide their choice of books. After reading, simple activities will be incorporated to test the student’s comprehension skills. For Mathematics classes, a lesson plan of math topics will be drafted and discussed with parents. Some teaching styles include the introduction of a myriad of strategies to tackle problem sums (especially number operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), interactive and activity-based lessons and the use of creative learning materials. These teaching styles may or may not be adopted, depending on the tutee’s and/or parent’s needs. Overall, I am highly invested in the academic progress of my students without neglecting their well-being. I will incorporate certain motivators such as words of encouragement or rewards to boost confidence and instill perseverance in my tutees, in hopes of creating a productive and inspiring environment while imposing academic discipline.
