Been tutoring students since I was a university freshman in 2019. Currently just graduated from NUS mid April 2023. 3 years of tutoring primary school students (from P3-PSLE). 2 years of tutoring (lower & upper) secondary level math Current students: -PSLE student since she was in P4 (English, Math & Science) -sec 3 E math student (express) -p4 English & science student I focus on building up the fundamentals (basics) with the student before moving on to progressively more interesting questions that tests on critical thinking & application skills. This ensures that the student has a solid grasp of the concepts taught and builds confidence in attempting increasingly difficult questions. Parents have feedback to me that my pacing is good and their children do not dread having lessons with me as tutoring is not simply drilling practice questions. For younger students (primary school), learning should be made fun to motivate self-learning in post-secondary education. For older students in secondary school, I serve as a guide for when they encounter difficulties in their studies as well as any stresses that they faced in their lives. Being a teenager once, I fully understand the reluctance in confiding certain topics/issues to my parents. Likewise, being relatively young, I am able to connect with my students and is empathetic to their concerns. For my students, having a solid fundamentals coupled with the skills to self-learn is crucial for their future development. Most of my students started off failing the subjects as they simply lack the understanding of the concepts taught in school. As school teachers have a timeline to hit, the lack of dedicated attention means that having 1-to-1 tutoring bridges that gap between understanding & not. After brushing up and polishing their basics, I move on to application style questions that involves real world thinking which adds realism to the problems that they are asked to solve.

I have 4 years of tutoring experience. I specialise in creating different forms of learning experiences for each specific student. There are different goals that parents and children would like to achieve, and there would be a plan to steadily work towards the goal. Additionally, I have taken H2 CLL and H2 translation in JC thus I have a strong foundation in Chinese. Hence, I will be able to guide the student well in Chinese, building the student a strong foundation. Many Chinese tutors only focus on drilling the student using assessment books, however, this might not work especially with the MOE currently steering towards critical thinking and holistic development. Thus aside from building the student a strong foundation, I will guide the student in exam techniques and teach the student how to think even when facing an unfamiliar question, allowing the student to have an edge over others in the examination at all times. Due to my background in translation, even if the student has a weak Chinese foundation, I will be able to teach the student Chinese through linking Chinese and English via translation.
