Hi, my name is Desiree and I am a Chinese language tutor. I specialise in teaching children and adults. I am a Chinese language major and graduated with Honours from Nanyang Technological University. I have been teaching for the last nine years. Chinese has always been a difficult language to master for local Singaporean. Simply put, the local society doesn’t promote the use of proper Chinese. This problem continue to persists in the local society as the English language is placed in paramount importance. Just like any other languages, Chinese is a language that needs to be used constantly. My way of teaching Chinese removes all the restrictions when learning the language and promote a fun way for students to master it. I have always been a believer that people generally gravitate towards fun and interesting methods and my way of teaching Chinese aims to do just that. My students generally experienced an improvement in grades after just a semester with me.

I have 5 years tutoring experience and currently I have 5 students with me with 2 students having double lessons with me every week. They are all p3 to p6 level. My approach is to encourage students to ask any questions they have and ensure they understand their school Chinese textbook/workbook/worksheets and then targeting on their weaker area by doing assessment books. Nearer to exam period we will do test papers from other schools. Whenever relevant, I will also share news articles or notices or even story book with them. There are just so many ways to learn languages. My lesson is tailored to each student according to their standard and needs and my aim is to build their confidence and interest in Chinese and to improve their Chinese. I will also assess the mental well being of my students to ensure they are happy and managing well.
