Hi! I'm Dylan, a fresh graduate from Nanyang Technological University. I specialize in teaching both written and spoken English at a primary and secondary school level. Aside from having attained As in English for both PSLE and 'O' levels, I also have formal training and extensive experience in public speaking. I'm responsible, driven, and willing to go the extra mile for my students. What makes my approach to teaching unique is that I'm especially passionate about unlocking the potential of underperforming students - I say this as a once-underperformer myself! In Sec 3, I struggled with my studies and had an L1R5 of 43. Yes, 43! I was then fortunate enough to meet a tutor who could identify exactly what was standing in the way of my progress and graduated two years later with an L1R5 of 8. It is precisely this experience that fuels my desire to bring out the best in my students, and I take great care in understanding both what to teach my students, as well as how to teach them. I can provide a sample of my lesson plans on request.

I have over 8 years of experience in part-time tutoring. I have coached primary, secondary and junior college students in English, Literature, General Paper and creative writing. My students were mostly upper secondary students who need help in English and Literature. I occasionally help my juniors from JC with GP and Literature, too. I was an arts student in secondary school and JC. I received an A for GP and was exempted from Academic Writing in SMU (students who receive B and below for GP need to take that module). I won 3 top awards at the international commonwealth essay writing competition from 2009-2011 and I am also a published writer with two books, so I believe I am fully qualified in terms of writing skills. Most of my students were failing in these subjects but all of them managed to pass their final exams with at least a B grade. I believe in writing in clear, simple and concise language only and will teach my students the same. I am also a published creative writer and would be more than happy to help your child find their inspiration and joy in writing. One example I can give is that of a secondary 4 student failing English in school and eventually passing it with a B3 for ‘O’ levels.
