I used to conduct part-time tutoring from 2011 to 2013, in Upper/Lower Primary and Lower Secondary. I always find a sense of satisfaction when I see students making the mark in subjects that they used have difficulty in.

I remembered I was entrusted a student who was weak in English and he was only 4 months away from PSLE. His parents were very worried that he might not be able to fast. After consoling the student, it was revealed that he hated the subject as he felt that he was always 'picked on' by his form teacher for the poor grasp. With effective coaching and guidance, not only did he improve tremendously and score above expectations for his English in PSLE, he also picked up the habit of reading English novels, etc.

To me it is very important to find out what is causing a student to be lacking in a particular area and focus on effectively untying that knot. That would make tutoring and learning much more effective once the student does not dread or fear the subject.

I am a first year NUS FASS student who took Literature, Economics, Mathematics and Chemistry in junior college.

I am passionate about teaching, it is my intended career path and I intend to go to NIE when I complete my FASS degree. I have always been interested in teaching, thus I took part in the MOE Internship Program where I taught Secondary 2 and 3 Literature and English classes. Two of the classes were normal academic classes.

I am most passionate about Literature, it is what I am majoring in now in university and I was the top Literature student in CJC, having sustained the Literature Subject Prize for two consecutive years.

I also gave tuition to a primary 6 girl whose grades improved from D to B within a semester. I am very interested in opinion-based learning, I do not spoon-feed and I believe it is necessary to focus on the aesthetics of a subject so they can enjoy it before they begin to learn productively.

I have one year experience teaching my brother PSLE Math which improved from 30 marks to 60 marks.
I have also provided assistance for my colleague in his FYP while he was taking a part time degree programme. He achieved an A for his FYP which is a pre-requisite for First Class Honour for his course.
