I have around 11 years experience tutoring Primary 1 to Secondary 3 students. Most of them have shown improvement in their grades (e.g. from a fail to pass, 50 to 70, etc.). Currently, I am teaching Primary 3 English and Science in a primary school. I completed 1.5years at SMU Law before I transferred to NTU WKW, one of the top 6 communications programs in the world. There, I trained in journalism and research, and graduated with Honours in 2019. *I have previously worked with tuition centres such as The Write Connection (Curriculum Designer) and Write Edge (Teacher).* I also have written for online travel agency Skyscanner on a contract basis, and for the Pro Bono Services Office of the Law Society of Singapore on a voluntary basis. In Hwachong, I was the top 10% of the cohort in GP and had my essays published as model answers. My first GP student went from a U to B at A levels with less than 9 months of tuition under me. Some of my other students improved from fail to B (IP English), B to talent programme (IP Literature), fail to B3 (O level English). I am highly experienced in teaching international students from China learning English as a second language, and have also coached precocious and creative children attempting to write their own poetry or novels. My method of teaching is to equip students with the skills for them to learn independently. Instead of spoon-feeding, I will give hints and ask leading questions, because I want my students to go through the process of critical thinking and arrive at conclusions on their own. To get the most out of engaging me as a tutor, students should read articles I send them and be ready to discuss during lesson time. My students must also be willing to work consistently, and not be afraid to try. Students should also keep a journal (electronic or hard copy) of mistakes they have made, for me to periodically refer to and test them on. I was a top literature student in secondary school, and within the top 10% of my cohort in GP at JC level. Having studied both in law school and NTU's Wee Kim Wee School of Communications and Information, I am confident that I can help serious students improve. I do not spoonfeed answers, preferring to ask students leading questions so they can arrive at the answer themselves. I mark essays meticulously for both grammar and vocabulary. The student from ACS(I) maintained an A1 throughout the 2 years I taught him. Another student, who is a special needs child, jumped from borderline fail to getting A2 for both Math and Science. I am very comfortable with students with special needs as I work with them in my profession.
