Taught in Shuqun sec from 1998 to 2017. 60% of my 20 O level students last year scored distinction I have been teaching IB students from School of the Arts, Hwa Chong Institution, ACSi and SJI. I have extensive experience with the setting and grading of O and N level Social Studies and History papers. I have experience collaborating with MOE HQ for the development of the new SS syllabus rolled out in 2016. I have experience marking the O level SS paper. I have the experience and skills to take near passes/failures and deliver distinctions. My methods rely heavily on practice, based on using my collection of papers culled from many years of teaching and also other papers shared with/by colleagues from other schools, and accurate grading of these papers, also based on my experience as a graduating class teacher.

I have two years experience teaching JC2 students and O level students.
I have taught A level literature, English language and literature, and General Paper. After giving tuition to a Korean boy who constantly failed his English literature exams in school, he obtained a C for A levels.
I have also taught O level English at SPOST Tuition Centre. I tend to take on the weaker students, which is more challenging and fulfilling. For example, I once helped a Secondary 4 girl improve from C6 to B3 for O levels.

I am passionate in languages, be it English or Chinese. I also know very basic Japanese and Malay. Despite my A level results, my Literature and General Paper results have been consistently above average in school exams (top 1% for GP in JC1), and my Literature essays have been model essays for the cohort.

I love teaching, especially when sharing the little tricks I have in understanding subject material. I believe that for any student, their foundation has to be strong for future progress in the subject. For English, this means basic grammar rules, and memorisation of collocations and idioms. However, this should not be done by mere drills (comprehension and composition). Increasing exposure of the student to a language is best done by interaction with stories and videos. This makes the learning process more entertaining and memorable. Usually, I bring in news clippings and short stories for my O level students, so that they can learn from different writing styles and are also exposed to current affairs.

In a nutshell, I believe that languages are a proxy to understanding the world better. I hope to continue honing my skills at teaching and helping students excel at the subjects I love.
