I've taught for 7 years in JCs, and tutored for 1 yr.

I have students from EJC, TJC and TPJC and CJC. My EJC student scored a B for both her mid year and promo. TPJC student nearly scored a B for her prelims but she topped her class. CJC student failed her mid year (got a U) but passed her SA2 test with a D.

For Secondary level, my recent student was from St Gabriel - an NA student scoring B4 last yr and managed an A1 for 2018 N levels after tuition with me.
Taking a Sec4 PRC girl from Bedok green now, was failing EL in sec 3 but managed to score B4 for her latest test.

I am teaching English in Dunman Secondary school.

When it comes to grades, I will do my very best. A little sacrifice goes a long way. I believe teaching goes beyond imparting knowledge. Teaching is also about nurturing attitudes of students. I balance between being strict when work needs to be done and a friend to my students when the need arises.

Personally, I feel that ice-breaking is essential for good communication channels between the student,the parents and myself. When students are comfortable, they learn better and tend to be more open to asking questions. This, is the time they learn best-when they are comfortable and do not hesitate to ask questions.

My strength is that I am a very patient person. I do not mind going slower until the student grasps what is being taught but when it comes to discipline, I will put my feet down and ensure they behave gradually.

My teaching style is fairly systematic. I will go through the student's homework first. Then, I will go through the syllabus according to the school's pace. If the student prefers to learn at a faster pace than his or her school syllabus, I will be glad to assist.

From time to time, I will give the student a short test to assess his or her understanding of the topic. Following that, I will concentrate more on the weak areas.

Lastly, as for parents, I will always keep them updated on their child's progress. Afterall, parents and educators are partners in nurturing the child.
