I was teaching Chinese in Qihua Primary school 2004-2005 - 1yr untrained teaching experience in pri school at CHIJ(Toa Payoh) 2007-2011 - 4yrs full-fledged teaching experience in pri school (Bendemeer Pri) 2013-2015,2017(Term 1), 2018-2020 - adjunct teaching experience in pri school (West Grove Pri & Naval Base Pri) 2003-present - >18 years of tutoring experience I am currently full time school teaching in West Grove Pri school I can confidently say every student who is under me for at least 3 to 6 months, will see improvement in their results. Unless those crucial cases, they may need to take up to 1 year at least to reach passing marks. I have a P4 boy who got 18/100, but scored C in PSLE. A P6 U-grader, after 6months of tuition, scored D for PSLE. Both students come from English speaking background, other than tuition or school's Chinese lesson, they do not use the language at all. Currently I have students ranging from P2(of whom I started him from P1 when he was in International School, from unable to converse in Chinese to scoring 40/50 in recent test) to Sec 3. Previously, I also had middle ability students scoring distinctions in PSLE. I always trust using different strategies for different students who learn different.
