I am a Chinese lecturer at NUS Extension. I worked 6 years full time there, and another 12 years part time till the department closed in 2013. NUS Extension focuses on giving introductory and intermediate language courses for foreign students, and the class helped them to build a strong foundation in Chinese. When I was working part time, I also tutored a few Primary and Secondary School students in Chinese. My recent students were from Nanyang Girls High School and Hwa Chong Institution. In terms of approach, I believe in building rapport and interacting with students, so that they can look forward to lessons instead of dreading them. I believe in a discussion-based class where students can participate, so that they can develop more initiative. Also, I will discuss the deeper meanings of words and phrases, as well as introduce some Chinese cultural practices and values to deepen students’ understanding of their content.

I have about 2 years of teaching experience, I mainly focus on teaching mathematics only. I taught one student from Unity secondary school. His A math from F9 to B4 and E math he got A2 in the end. The other 2 students that I taught were siblings. One is sec 3 and the other is P6 this year. I have taught them only for 2 months as I took over from my sister who is currently away. (currently stopped teaching as PSLE is here and sec 3 boy having his holiday break)
P6 girl improved from failing to passing and scoring well for paper 1.
