Experience
Description of self:
I graduated from ACS (Independent) in 2016. I attained an IB score of 44. I have accepted a place at Imperial College London to study MEng Aeronautical Engineering, starting October 2019.
Teaching experience
I was a tutor in the ACS(I) economics peer coaching program. Over the course of 6 months, I guided 2 weaker classmates in economics who were scoring grade 4s and 5s. Both scored grade 7s in the IBDP examinations.
I also authored an economics student guide which is in circulation both informally and on an online student resource website.
I am presently tutoring 6 IB students from Hwa Chong International, Overseas Family School, German European School, Canadian International School and SJI in Physics (HL/SL) and Math (HL/SL). 3 students are in Grade 11 and 3 are in Grade 12. My present focus is tutoring IB students.
I also tutor IB students in Australia and New Zealand online through an international education company based in New Zealand.
Teaching method
I specialise in examination skills, and my lessons are oriented around teaching how to effectively apply subject content to tackle the demands of examination questions. This is important as often, students have the potential to do well, but are limited simply by not understanding what examiners expect of them. This is especially so in the sciences and economics.
As for math, I believe it is more than just endless practice that makes perfect. It is about steering the student in the right direction with relevant practice that poses just the right challenge for him/her. This ensures meaningful learning.
I am a resourceful tutor who provides a wide range of learning resources, such as self-authored/ self-compiled notes/study guides, topical/revision worksheets and examination papers from schools and examination boards. All this to ensure all rounded learning--- from developing basic understanding, to reinforcing understanding of subject matter and ultimately to challenge the student.
Finally, I believe in giving extensive feedback on assignments, tests and exams because learning from mistakes is the best way to improve.
Awards/achievements
