'MSc (International Relations) from S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies; BSocSc (2nd Upper Honours) in Geography from the National University of Singapore, 10 years experience with MOE. Subject Head of Geography and Project Work ST/ Examiner in a JC.
After graduating from NUS, I completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) at the National Institute of Education. I taught H1 and H2 (Physical and Human) Geography in a Junior College for 8 years and was subsequently appointed Subject Head/ Geography. I held this post for 3 years and implemented key learning and examination processes for students. These included methods, structures and processes to enable students to learn Geography well. As the SH, I was also in charge of ensuring internal college examinations were on par with national standards so that students were well prepared to sit for their examinations. I attended geography marking workshops with the Cambridge examiners and was involved the Geography syllabus review focus group discussions with the Ministry of Education's Curriculum Planning Divison. In 2010, I was one of two Junior College teachers selected to attend MOE's Geography Overseas Attachment Programme in the UK where I attended fieldwork and theoretical lessons conducted by the UK Field Studies Centre and the Institute of Education (London) respectively. I subsequently presented her Geography fieldwork findings at the inaugural Humanities Education Conference in 2012.
A firm believer in innovative and experiential learning, my lessons blend videos, outdoor fieldwork and online learning approaches to suit a variety of student needs and interest. I am able to explain difficult concepts using simple diagrams and answer structures. My students have consistently scored As and Bs for Geography.
As a PW tutor and member of the college's PW Committee, I held the roles of Supervising Tutor and internal examiner for 8 years. I was involved in training and facilitating all project work paper components for teachers and students, including the college's benchmarking exercises to ensure alignment with national standards. In June 2013, I was posted to the Ministry of Education's International Co-operations Branch (Planning Division) where I had oversight of the bilateral and multilateral education relations between Singapore and other countries
