Experience
I have 3 years experience tutoring students. Some examples of my past students are, among others : 3 JC1 students from Hwa Chong; 3 JC2 students from Raffles JC and Jurong JC; 2 upper-secondary students from Victoria School and 4 others from miscellaneous secondary schools. My most recent A level-taker was from MDIS. She found herself quite lost as her school did not provide her with sufficient resources for the content-intensive A levels. Nonetheless, after 1 year of tutoring, she improved from a 'E' and 'S' in Bio and Chem in school exams respectively, to commendable result of an 'A' and 'B' in the subjects for A levels.
Having been a so-called top student myself for 12 years (273 for PSLE, 9'A1s' for O levels and straight As from Hwa Chong JC), I am confident that my ability as a student can translate to that of a good teacher.
Fresh out of school, I can give insider tips to my students and I will strive to make each lesson relevant and interesting to the student, as my own teachers have down for me, to motivate them to not just excel in, but enjoy the process of learning the subject. After all, most of the learning will occur outside of the class
Having kept my notes from Hwa Chong, together with assessment books I have personally found to be useful, I can provide my students with useful course material to add substance to the structure of our lessons.
My methodology is fairly straight-forward and has proven effective: 1) Assess (to determine pace of lesson) 2) Discuss and Practice (to find misunderstandings) 3) Summarise/correct (most time will be spent here) 4) Review (important to consolidate learning and revise learning points) 5) follow-through (homework, to challenge students beyond school work)
I am open to answering my student's question even after lessons and will make it clear to my student that I will always be just a text away if he/she requires any extra help with schoolwork.
I take pride and responsibility in each of my students and will not take on any more students than I can effectively manage.
