Currently, I am an English teacher in a secondary school in Singapore, and have been teaching for 3 years. For English, I have taught Secondary 3 Express for three years, and I have experience creating English language resources for the rest of the levels and streams. In my classes, I have had the opportunity to teach students of different abilities within one class. Hence, in order to learn how to better help students of varying abilities within one class, I went and graduated from a course in Differentiated Instruction, that helped me to gain knowledge on how to properly scaffold classes well to guide students of different levels so that value is added into their learning for every lesson. I have had opportunities to work with Secondary 3 students from Myanmar, Thailand and China who were very weak in the language, and to successfully help them to pass their examinations for the year despite having failed in the earlier parts of the years.

As a teacher, I believe in the abilities of every student, and that with the proper guidance and by letting them taste small success throughout their learning process, they will be able to gain confidence and intrinsic motivation to excel in the subject. Additionally, I am taking a Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language, with a module dealing directly with teaching phonology and phonetics.

At present, I am also teaching a 6-year-old boy phonics. He was unable to read or write in the first lesson, but could read an entire Level 1 Peter & Jane book unaided by the end of the 8th lesson. 

I also have students who are learning IGCSE and IB English from me.

I was formerly a school teacher at Raffles Institution and NUS High School.

I coached many students in H1 GP for the past 10 years. Many of them have enrolled in prestigious universities in the US and UK after their A levels.

I enjoy challenging students to think out of the box and helping them develop critical thinking skills. In my 10 years of teaching, I find that many students struggle with H1 GP on two fronts – having a deep understanding of the content and being able to articulate their ideas in a coherent and convincing manner.

I provide resources which are meant to help a student keep abreast of the latest developments in GP-related issues. Through my essays and commentaries, I also hope to model out the type of writing that students can emulate, and give them a clearer idea of what is expected of them in GP essays.

I focus on helping students develop the necessary GP process skills so that they will be well-equipped to critically analyse the various GP issues and articulate them powerfully in writing.
